Dr. Manoj Kumar is a Post Graduate in two subjects (History & Public Administration) and Ph.D. After the completion of his academic career, he devoted his time and energy to the study & research of Astrology, Numerology, Palmistry, Vaastu- Fengshui, Past life Regression & other occult sciences as well as in deep Sadhana. Numerology, since antiquity, had helped mankind to know the future events before hand. Numerology is a science of exploring hidden powers of numbers and their influence on human beings.

Indians see numbers as symbols of certain types of cosmic . powers. And they link them with spirituality. For example a is a number that encircles some part of the infinite universe. The inner part of it is separated from the vast outer space. This is similar to human body where the soul (Jeevaatma) resides. A human being always feels that he is separate and the outer universe is different from him. He confines his soul with his present body and thinks that he and the body is one and the same. Introduction

The word Numerology comes from the Latin word "Numerus," which means number, and the Greek word "Logos," which means word, thought, and expression. Numerology, based upon the sacred science of numbers. is an advanced offshoot of the melodious rhythm of the mathematical precision that controls all creation. It influences every aspect of our life unconsciously or consciously whether we are aware of this or not. Numerology is the science and philosophy of numbers (1 to 9) where each number has its own strength, potential and challenge. The whole idea behind this is to know the hidden expression contained in these numbers so as to understand their relationship and progression in our numerology chart. This can help us in knowing the difficulties we may have experienced in the past or under present circumstances and then working towards doing some inner work in our life for bringing harmony, peace and joy.

The belief in Numerology is easier to understand when we put it into a context with realizing how the entire world revolves around numbers and mathematical equations. The most familiar form of numbers are natural numbers 0, 1,2, 3, 4 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

The numbers 1 to 9 can be called as unit numbers and the numbers from 10 onwards (up to 99) can be called as double- digit numbers which denotes the fusion of two numbers however these can still be reduced to unit numbers, eg; 24 (2+4=6) is reduced to 6. Then, there are Master Numbers such as 11,22,33,44 and so on which are never reduced to a unit number as they carry their own intensified vibration and potency. Every number expresses its qualities in the form of strengths and challenges. Therefore, no number is good or bad, lucky or unlucky and auspicious or inauspicious as each and every number is equally necessary and important, and each gives strength to the next one and takes what it needs from the one before. Numbers have two aspects viz; exoteric or external and esoteric or inner. In a nut shell, every number possesses its own unique quality and power. Our ancient seers believed that numbers symbolize divinity and however our mathematicians believed that study of numbers can possibly reveal the principles of creation and laws of time & space. Numbers can be seen as fundamental in art, poetry, architecture, music, and so on. The history of numbers is as old as the recorded history of man. Numerology was in use in ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, China and India and is to be found in the ancient books of wisdom, such as the Hebrew Kabala. Most commonly used system for Numerology were developed by the Chaldeans, the Hindus, the Mayans, the Hebrews (Kabala), the Chinese (Book of Changes), and the work of Pythagoras, to name a few. The basic intent behind these systems originally was to understand the relationship between man and his god. Pythagoras, the old master philosopher and mathematician, who lived in the sixth century BC, propounded the theory that nothing in the universe could exist without numbers. He established a Mystery School in Italy when he was 52 years old. He was born in Greece and lived between 582 and 507 BC, much of his life spent in study and travel. His Mystery School taught esoteric knowledge, which included the secret of number and vibration. The knowledge was passed down by word of mouth and a few manuscripts. The academic teaching rested on a foundation of Mathematics, Music and Astronomy. Much of Pythagoras' background in Egyptian philosophy and religion was based upon Number and Kabalistic principle. He postulated that the triangle was particularly important, as it was the first complete shape, and constituted a blueprint. Thus form is preceded by a blueprint, and each stage of this process is measured through numbers, hence nothing exists without numbers.

The art of Numerology has existed since the ancient discovery of mathematics. To this day, most cultures attach special meaning to certain numbers and their position in a sequence. As we have just seen, the Chinese I Ching describes the differences between even (earthly) and odd (heavenly) numbers. Numerology has also been used to correlate the significance of numbers to an alphabet, giving each letter a numerical value. A well-known example is the Hebrew alphabet of twenty-two characters-the same as the number of trump cards in the Tarot deck. Because of the applicability of numbers to alphabets, numerologists are able to use words or names, in addition to numbers, to reveal divinatory meaning.

There are three major forms of Numerology- Kabbalic, Chaldean and the Pythagorean. They can be used in any combination to produce a reading, but whatever system you prefer..I suggest using it consistently so as not to confuse yourself. The one you find that you are drawn to is good enough.

Kabbalic Numerology-which is often used to interpret names-originally derived from Hebrew mysticism, is an outgrowth of the Hebrew alphabet with its twenty-two vibrations. Later it was adapted for the Greek alphabet, then' the Roman alphabet. Thirteenth century Kabbalists believed that the Old Testament was written in a secret code inspired by God. They used Numerology as a tool to decipher this code. It also happens that twenty-two-base Numerology adds a significant dimension to the interpretation of the twenty-two Trump cards of the Tarot deck.

Chaldean Numerology has closer ties "to Astrology, having originated in Mesopotamia, which was also the birthplace of Western Astrology. It is also related to the Vedic system of India, as well as the Kabbalah, The basis of Chaldean Numerology is that each letter has a unique vibration and is assigned a number from 1 to 8 based on its energetic quality. The number 9 is kept separate from the other numbers- except when it appears as a sum of vibrations-because it is considered the most sacred number. In Chaldean Numerology, single digits reveal the outer nature of person, while double digits describe inner qualities.

    Preface

    The ancient science of numbers has its origin in the prehistoric times. The ancients, as also the Hindu seers and searchers of and for Nature's laws, were masters of all studies relating to significance of numbers beyond the obvious. The Chaldeans, the Hebrews and the Egyptians are known to have practiced numerology. The philosophers of ancient Greece believed that numbers possessed some mysterious power independent of their arithmetical significance. Thomas Taylor in his translation of Lamblicus' Life of Pythagoras said: "The Pythagoreans received from the theology of Orpheus the principles of intelligible and intellectual numbers; they assigned them an abundant progression, and extended their dominion." Hence that proverb was peculiar to the Pythagoreans that all things are assimilated to numbers.

    Numbers are the means employed by us to express definite quantities. They do not .express anything of quality. Thus, if we say 2 apples and 2 apples make 4 apples we leave out of consideration the fact that one or more of them may be bad. From this we learn that 2~ or any other number, is potentially good or evil, its quantity being unaffected, i.e., even if one apple out of the four is moth-eaten, the quantity of 2+2 will remain 4. The seers of yore were intuitively aware of the importance of numbers and made remarkable study of numbers and their influence over life and events on the Earth. Such studies were usually shrouded in secrecy and hence, it was a practice not to record or write one's observation lest these fall into the hands of uninitiated who could misuse such knowledge; knowledge which gave power to the one possessing it.

    Occult Significance Assigned to Numbers

    The ancient seers, together with the Hindus, the Greeks and the Hebrews had assigned certain power or occult power to each number, which is also stated earlier in the introduction Comprehensive Vedic Numerology to the book. According to them the occult significance of any number is not expressed by the figure or symbol only. Every number has a certain power which is not expressed by the figure or symbol employed to denote quantity. This power rests in an occult connection existing between the relations of things and the principles in nature of which they are the expressions. Revelation first took a demonstrable from when man evolved the numerical sequence 0 1 23456 789, by whatever symbols it was expressed. For example, number 5 is not merely the figure or symbol of the number 5 denoting a specified quantity. According to numerologists, number 5 may signify many things. It is, amongst others, symbol of the planet Mercury. It is also the number of reason, logic, ethics, travelling, commerce and utility.

    Letus also observe some more characteristics or significance associated with the number 5. Study the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 89. Bringing the first and last of these series together in order successively, we have -

    1 and 9 equals 10
    2 and 8 equals 10
    3 and 7 equals 10
    4 and 6 equals 10
    Leaving behind' the characteristic number 5, which represents the human species with its five avenues of sensation, its five digits or fingers, its five peduncles or toes, and its five great races. This number was held in great veneration by the ancients, and we find that among the Chinese and the Hindus there is a tendency to count by fives. Thus, the Chinese have the Wu hing or five useful things, the five precepts of conduct, five ranks of office, five kinds. of punishment, etc. The five useful things were clay, wood, metal, fire and water. These were ruled by five planets .

    Saturn ruled the Earth or clay

    Jupiter ruled wood

    Venus ruled metal

    Mars ruled fire

    Mercury ruled water

    So they called and named the planets thus, Saturn became the Earth Star, Jupiter the Wood Star, Venus was called the Metal Star, Mars was known as the Fire Star and Mercury the Water Star. The five precepts were filial love, loyalty, marital fidelity, obedience and sincerity; as regulating the relationship between parents and their children, the rulers and the people, .husbands and wives, masters and servants, man and friend. The five kinds of punishment were by fines, the rod the scourge, banishment and death.

    Thus, five may be said to stand for humanity and. human relations, man standing as it were in the middle ground of the manifest and unmanifest worlds. And in a measure cognizing both the material and immaterial worlds by sense and thought, himself being the embodiment of all, an epitome of the universe, a veritable microcosm.

    The total of the digits 1 to 9 is 45, or nine times 5. The total of the odd numbers is 25, or five times 5. The total of the even numbers is 20, or four times 5. It is a curious set of relations. It is too curious to be ignored. It must therefore be studied.

    During the course of his long career as it professional palmist, numerologist and astrologer, Cheiro had the privilege of meeting innumerable celebrities. One. of his clients was King Edward VII, then Prince of Wales. The prince was born on 9th November. The Cheiro describes his meeting with the Prince in his memoirs. He told the Prince that number 9 was significant in his life. The month of November is called 'The Second House of Mars' in astrology and is governed by number 9. Therefore, Cht!iro went into great detail in explaining how number 9 will play a very significant role in Edwards' life.
