FAQs

Q1. Who is the Supreme Lord of Brahma Purana?

There are three grades of Puranas: Sattva (mode of goodness), Rajas (mode of passion), and Tamas (mode of ignorance), which suit the consciousness of different people according to their current state. The Brahma Purana is categorized as a Rajas Purana. However, the ultimate goal of all the Vedas and Puranas is to take to the devotional service of Lord Vishnu, the Supreme. Although many verses in the Brahma Purana talk about Lord Shiva, Surya (Sun God), and other gods, in many places, Lord Vishnu or Narayan is mentioned as the Supreme Primeval Lord from whom everyone and everything emanates.

Q2. How is Brahma Vaivarta Purana authentic?

The Brahma Vaivarta Purana is an important Vedic literature in Vaishnavism. It contains many verses that talk about the glories of Lord Vishnu and the importance of taking His shelter. All the Puranas have been compiled by Vyasadev who is considered to be the literary incarnation of the Lord Himself. Furthermore, the four Vaishnava Sampradayas (Brahma Sampradaya, Shree Sampradaya, Kumara Sampradaya, and Rudra Sampradaya), quote many verses from the Brahma Vaivarta Purana and teach the disciples to take up Vishnu Bhakti. These Sampradayas strictly follow the Guru-Parampara system of spiritual education that starts from the Lord Himself. Thus, this Purana is to be considered bona fide.
