Bhai Gurdas (Makers of Indian Literature)
Bhai Gurdas (Makers of Indian Literature)
Description
From the Back of the Book

Bhai Gurdas is well known for his poetic universalization of the religious beliefs and practices of the Sikh faith in Punjabi and Braji languages.

The Bhai views Guru Nanak and his faith as the natural and inevitable culmination of the long history of Indian religious thought.

Steeped in Indian lore, the Bhai's poetry is characterized by his suggestive diction, impeccable idiom and illustrative imagination. Bhai Gurdas's work provides valuable source-material to regional and national historiographers, especially those interested in such fields of human activity as religion, philosophy, hermaneutics, sociology, economics, agriculture and literature.

He holds a very interesting mirror to the rural activities of medieval Punjab.

About the Author

Pritam Singh the author of this monograph, is a writer of repute in Punjabi. Occasionally, he writes in English also. The compilation of Sikh Concept of the Divine (1985) was done by him in English, while he was professor of Guru Nanak Studies in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. His writings in Punjabi include The Evolution of Gurumukhi Script (1955); life and Letters of Khushal khan Khattak (1974); Foreign Influences on Punjab and Punjabi(1978); Life and Letters of Bhai Kahn Singh of Nabha (1989) and Sant Singh Sekhdon (1991).

In this slender volume Prof. Pritam Singh evaluates the life and work of Bhai Gurdas, mainly for the benefit of non-Punjabi readers.

I am very thankful to you for keeping such rare and quality books, DVDs, and CDs of classical music and even Dhrupad which is almost unbelievable. I hope you continue to be this good in your helpfulness. I have found books about rare cultural heritage such as Kodava samaj, Dhrupad and other DVDs and CDs in addition to the beautiful sarees I have from your business, actually business is not the right word, but for lack of a word I am using this.

I was pleased to chance upon your site last year though the name threw me at first! I have ordered several books on Indian theatre and performance, which I haven't found elsewhere (including Amazon) or were unbelievably exorbitantly priced first editions etc. I appreciate how well you pack the books in your distinctive protective packaging for international and domestic mailing (for I order books for India delivery as well) and the speed with which my order is delivered, well within the indicated time. Good work!
Chitra, United Kingdom
