Description

From the Jacket:

Dogen is saying, that forms don't change into other forms. Winter remains winter, summer remains summer, but something inner moves from one climate to another climate which is beyond birth and beyond death, which is beyond life, which simply is.

You can give it any shape, any form, but you cannot take away its isness.

This isness is the greatest discovery of the East. The West has missed it completely.

Back of the Book

Through an exploration of the sutras of Dogen, a Japanese Zen naster who lived from 1200 - 1253 Osho creates hear a tool of tremendous support for self transformation.

Dogen asked why if all beings are endowed with buddha nature, as Buddha says, is dicipline necessary? Finding an authentic he comes to the realization that everyone is already a buddha and, what is missing is simple its recognition.

Osho describes how to know the difference between a man who can challenge your inner being to wake up, and a man who is just a teacher, parroting knowledge that he has no experience of.

But - and this is vital for our time - he also transmits the very essence of the meditative experience and shows how, the moment there is no self, only withnessing it is pssible to be enlightened by all things, in all situations. this Book is dedicated to the moon, whose reflection in a calm lake is a symbol of awareness. throughout haiku -pictorial Japanese poems- add a visual dimension. Each chapter ends with a guided meditation.

About the Author

Osho's unique contribution to the understanding of who we are defies categorization. Mystic and scientist, a rebellious spirit whose sole interest is to alert humanity to the urgent need to discover a new way of living. To continue as before is to invite threats to our very survival on this unique and beautiful planet. His essential point is that only by changing ourselves, one individual at a time, can the outcome of all our "selves" - our societies, our cultures, our beliefs, our world - also change. The doorway to that change is meditation.

Osho the scientist has experimented and scrutinized all the approaches of the past and examined their effects on the modern human being and responded to their shortcomings by creating a new starting point for the hyperactive 21st Century mind: OSHa Active Meditations.

Once the agitation of a modern lifetime has started to settle, "activity" can melt into "passivity," a key starting point of real meditation. To support this next step, Osho has transformed the ancient "art of listening" into a subtle contemporary method- ology: the OSHa Talks. Here words become music, the listener discovers who is listening, and the awareness moves from what is being heard to the individual doing the listening. Magically, as silence arises, what needs to be heard is understood directly, free from the distraction of a mind that can only interrupt and interfere with this delicate process.

These thousands of talks cover everything from the indi- vidual quest for meaning to the most urgent social and polit- ical issues facing society today. Osho's books are not written but are transcribed from audio and video recordings of these extemporaneous talks to international audiences. As he puts it, "So remember: whatever I am saying is not just for you …I am talking also for the future generations."

Osho has been described by The Sunday Times in London as one of the "1000 Makers of the 20th Century" and by American author Tom Robbins as "the most dangerous man since Jesus Christ." Sunday Mid-Day (India) has selected Osho as one of ten people - along with Gandhi, Nehru and Buddha - who have changed the destiny of India.

About his own work Osho has said that he is helping to create the conditions for the birth of a new kind of human being. He often characterizes this new human being as "Zorba the Buddha" - capable both of enjoying the earthy pleasures of a Zorba the Greek and the silent serenity of a Gautama the Buddha.

Running like a thread through all aspects of Osho's talks and meditations is a vision that encompasses both the timeless wisdom of all ages past and the highest potential of today's (and tomorrow's) science and technology.

Osho is known for his revolutionary contribution to the sci- ence of inner transformation, with an approach to meditation that acknowledges the accelerated pace of contemporary life. His unique OSHO Active Meditations™ are designed to first release the accumulated stresses of body and mind, so that it is then easier to take an experience of stillness and thought- free relaxation into daily life.

Preface

Existence is enough unto itself; only for those who are feeling empty is a goal needed. Once you know your fullness, you don't have space for any goal left within you. You are not only full, you are overflowing. So the question of going anywhere does not arise because wherever you are, you are in the whole; wherever you are, you are in the same ocean. Hence a tremendous transformation arises in you.

All your past lives ... Continuous movement, from one body to another body, from one life to another life, but the same desires, the same greed, the same anger, the same violence, the same competition, the same jealousy. The Eastern word for the world is samsara - samsara means the wheel. You go on moving on a wheel, the same wheel, which goes nowhere. You are just clinging to some spoke of the wheel. The wheel goes on moving and you think you are reaching somewhere. You are not reaching anywhere, but because you continuously think that you are reaching somewhere, you never look inward to find you are already there where you want to be.

The home that you are searching for is within you; the god that you have been seeking is within you. You are the greatest treasure of consciousness in this whole existence. The moment you realize your glory and splendor you see yourself as an Everest high in the sky. You cannot conceive that anything more can be added to you. Your fulfilment is so complete that an absolute stop comes. This stop becomes the explosion of enlightenment, of awakening, of your buddha nature.
