Ganesha: The Lord of Beginnings

Ganesha, the elephant-headed god is one of the most loved and ubiquitous deities of the Hindu pantheon. Easily recognizable, he is revered across India. An amalgam of disparate elements, he is at once the creator and the clearer of obstacles, part-animal, yet a patron of learning. He is the presiding deity of material goods as also the lord of spirituality, lord of brahmacharis yet grants progeny to the childless. His enormous appeal stems from his fosters and the hopes and desires he fulfills with the powers attributed to him.

This book is the first in a series of coffee-table books on Hindu gods and goddesses.

SONDEEP SHANKAR is one of the leading photojournalist in India. His photographs have appeared in many news magazines across the world. He has several publications to his credit including Havelis of Old Delhi; The Golden Temple; Childhood in Indian; Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Hemkund Sahib.

Sondeep is presently working on a series of pictorial books on the Sikh heritage. He has done extensive work on Hindu gods and goddesses.

ARCHANA SHANKAR is the author of travel books titled: Pushkar; Udaipur; Khajuraho; Kerala and Goa.

She is also a freelance manuscript editor based in New Delhi.
