Description
Back of The Book

Geography of India by Majid Husain is rapidly climbing up the popularity chart. It is now a widely read academic-cum-reference manual that addresses the relevant topics of India’s geographical features in a systematic and comprehensive manner. The inclusionof carefully thought out Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) especially relevant for General Studies Paper 1 of the Civil Services preliminary examination is an additional advantage for aspirants appearing in this prestigious examination.

Written in a lucid style and documented with suitable maps and diagrams, the uniqueness of the book lies in the wide coverage of the subject. In the process, the book will be of immense interest to academic students, teachers, researchers and those who have a special interest in the subject.

Preface To The Fifth Edition

Change is the law of nature and geography as a subject is no exception. Rapid changes take place in socio-economic and demographic data which more often than not, are directly or indirectly affected by physical and culture factors. As regards India, during the last few years, there have been significant changes in the cropping patterns, crop concentration, crop combinations, intensity of irrigation and agriculture, mining, energy resources, agro-based and mineral-based industrial centers, marketing and trade patterns. Changes have also been significant transport network means of transportation and communication. These changes have affected the economy, society, polity, cultural values and the overall life of the Indian people. The fifth revised edition of Geography of India’ incorporates a number of changes in the above mentioned areas that has necessitated in streamlining the text and expanding the scope of the subject. In this edition, several subtopics have been added in many chapters thereby strengthening them with latest data. A number of case studies have also been included, especially in the chapters on ecology, agriculture, industries, transport, rural-urban settlements, urbanization and urban morphology. More than a dozen new maps have been added, while several maps have been redrawn by applying the standard cartographic techniques to make them more effective, informative and useful. A Selected bibliography has also been added to provide the latest reference to readers. Most importantly, 150 carefully framed Multiple Choice Questions (MSQs) have been added in this edition. These will be of immense help to the aspirants of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination especially General Studies Paper I. These MCQs have been designed to test the understanding and application of the subject and will hopeful that with this revision exercise the book will become much more relevant to not just students and aspirants of various examinations, but also for serious academicians, researchers and those who are passionate about the subject.

This revision is also based on many constructive suggestions from the readers whose comments helped me to conceive and mould the change to this edition. I sincerely thank each and every one of the distinguished geographers, outstanding teachers and students who motivated the author to revise the book.

Finally, I wish to extend my special thanks and appreciation to the editorial staff of McGraw Hill Education (India) who have cooperated and worked diligently to produce the book.

Testimonials

Very easy to buy, great site! Thanks
Ilda, Brazil
Our Nandi sculpture arrived today and it surpasses all expectations - it is wonderful. We are not only pleasantly surprised by the speed of international delivery but also are extremely grateful for the care of your packaging. Our sculpture needed to travel to an off-lying island of New Zealand but it arrived safely because of how well it had been packaged. Based upon my experience of all aspects of your service, I have no hesitation in recommending Exotic India.
