Description

Back of the Book

Why are the Himalayas considered geologically alive? When did the first train huff and puff its way between two stations in India? What was India’s very own desi dino called? How did India’s currency come to be named the ‘rupee’? Which Indian glacier is the highest battleground in the world? Who wrote the world’s first grammar book?

If questions like these make you curious about incredible India, here is a bumper infopedia meant just for you! Packed with fascinating facts, terrific trivia and colourful cartoons on just about everything in India, this book encourages interest in a wide range of subjects. Use it for homework help, for project ideas, to boost your general knowledge or as a ready reference because this must-have book makes getting to know India as easy as ABC!

Authors’ Note

Bharat. Hindustan. Jambudweep. Down the ages, India has been known by all these names ... besides being called the Land of Spices, the Land of Festivals and the Land of Seven Rivers. This vast, vibrant country, rich in marvels both natural and man-made, has a culture that goes back more than 5000 years. It has also been ruled by some of the mightiest dynasties. So it comes as no surprise that we encounter innumerable wonders, mysteries and puzzles throughout India!

This book is a celebration of the country’s treasures, both ancient and modern. As you can imagine, we could not possibly squeeze in all of them into a single book. Then why have we chosen to call it India: A to Z?

Good question! Now, close your eyes and imagine you are at your favourite food court. Someone orders all the goodies available there, and tells you that you can have a bite of every single thing there is to eat. Wouldn’t that be cool? Well, we are aiming to do something similar in our book. We are going to give you little titbits of information about all the important things that capture the essence of India. And we hope it will get you started on a lifelong journey of discovery.

From the Aadhar card to the oldest zoo, from Bollywood to yoga, from Indian dinosaurs to our mythical monsters, the book has interesting information, funky facts and trivia treats from every region in the country. They will give you an exciting overview of India and its history, fairs and festivals, monuments and myths, art and architecture, wildlife and wonders, its movers and shakers and much more. Get ready to sample everything from the awesome to the zany, from the fabulous to the funny, from the groovy to the gory, and from the saintly to the scary. What’s more, there are cool cartoons and beautiful photographs that lend colour to the pages of this fun-tastic book! Curious kya? Then, flip the page, and have a blast on your alphabetical tour of Incredible India!

Amazing book and service. The shipment to Germany was even faster than I expected (4 days counting the weekend)the packaging was flawless and superb and I received the book in perfect condition. My pleasure to buy in your shop and thank you very much!

I recieved my Mahavir pendant today. It is wonderful. I was recently in Delhi and as it was a spiritual trip visiting Jain temples in Rajasthan, Agra, Rishikesh and Delhi i did not have the opportunity to shop much. The pendant is beautiful and i shall treasure it. I have attached a picture of me in India. Your country and the people will always be in my heart.
Evelyn, Desoto, Texas.

It is always a great pleasure to return to Exotic India with its exquisit artwork, books and other items. As I said several times before, Exotic India is far more than a highly professional Indian online shop; it is in fact an excellent ambassador to the world for the splendour of Indian wisdom and spirituality. I wish a happy and successful New Year 2017 to Exotic India and its employees! You can be very proud of yourself!
Dr Michael Seeber (psychiatrist and psychotherapist, Essen/Germany)
My last order arrived in a reasonable amount of time, regarding the long way it had to take! I am glad to find this and some other ayurvedic remedy, as well as books and much other things at your online-store and I am looking forward to be your customer again, some time.
