Inscriptions Of Bengal (Containing Iscriptions of The Candras, The Varmans And The Senas, And Of Isvaraghosa And Damodara)
Description
Foreword

It is a master of great pleasure for the members of DSA (Sanskrit), Jadavpur University, Kolkata that, after an interval of about eight decades, it is possible for us to bring about the reprint-edition of the brilliant work Inscriptions of Bengal composed with much labour and at the same time with great care by Shri Nani Gopal Majumdar. This, volume contains all the known inscriptions of the time of the Sena kings and their immediate predecessors the Candras and the Varmans. These inscriptions are in reality the only dependable materials available for construction of the history of the Sena rule in Bengal and they are therefore invaluable to the students of Ancient Indian History and Culture. We are grateful to dr. Debarchana Sarkar of the Deptt. Of Sanskrit, Jadavpur University, who has acquainted the readers with Mr. Majumdar's method of treatment of the records and the scholarship he has displayed in dealing with this task.

On behalf of the DSA (Sanskrit), Jadavpur University, We desire to express our thanks to the UGC for providing the cost of our publications which include some very valuable re-print editions. Our thanks are also due to Sri Debasish Bhattacharya of Sanskrit Pustak Bhandar for his sincerity in brining out this publication within a very short time.
