Book Description
Introduction

Vimshottri Dasa system is an acknowledged Peddhati of Hindu Predictive Astrology. Laghu Parashari is only a scientific and most rational explanation of how, why, and when the dasa of a Planet will be effective or ineffective, benefic, malefic or mixed according to this system. It has been very curtly explained in 42 Shlokas (expect the traditional explanations and principles for which the author himself has sought his apology in shloka 4)

The samjna adhyaya gives principles and conditions by which the reader can learn about such Planets as become benefic, malefic or marakas. He has also given here the other sign position of each and every Planet that makes him benefic, malefic or maraka. When the Maha Dasa and Antar Dasa is to be read in a chart find out: (1) which are the benefic and malefic Planets; (2) then calculate the sambandh of the planets which make saphal (effective) and nishphal (ineffective) Rajayogas with the help of the Karaka Adhyaya and also find out the planes which make Rajayoga Sambandh; (3) the Ayurdayadhyaya gives the principles to spot the marakas. Thus after finding out the benefics, Karakas and Marakas concider the Ruling periods (Maha Dasa) and sub-periods (Antar Dasa) of the planets. These Sholakas do not deal with anything else than these three issues. In short, these principles of the Dasa System deal with Rajayogas and marakas only. This study of the benefics, Yoga Karakas and Marakas given birth to six other principles. The first of these is regarding the Lord of the Maha Dasa who cannot give benefic-malefic (shubhashubh) effects during his own ruling period and Antar, supra shloka 29. Shloka 30 and 31 apply to the Maha Dasa (ruling periods) of the Benefics. It is also supported in shloka 37, 38 and 39. The principles involved in Shloka 29, 30 and 31 also apply to the special principles given in shloka 35 to 40. Shloka 30 points out (1) to the sambandh formed between the Lord of Maha Dasa and that of Antar Dasa, (2) further they should be Saman Dhami (of similar disposition). Under these conditions the effects of the Lord of Maha Dasa itself will be seen in the Antar of the Lord who are having sambandh or are of Like Disposition.

To arrive at the period/time of effects of Lord of Maha Dasa, Antar (sub-period) Ve-Dasa (sub-sub-period) and Sookshma or Pran Dasa (sub-sub-sub period) the following method of Computation is adopted. For this convenience the reader is advised to look up Lahri's Ephemeries for the Balance of Vimshottari Dasa by longitude of Moon and Periods, Sub-Periods and Inter Periods of planets.

Method of calculating the Antar Dasa of a planet in the main period of another:
Main Period of the Lord x Main period of the sub-lord/120
Ve-Dasa =
Main period of the sub-Lord, x main period of the Antar Dasa Lord/120
and so on.

It will not be out of place her to advise the reader to keep in mind the Deeptadi states of the planets.

There are nine Avasthas of the planets: (1) Deeptavastha, (2) Swastha, (3) Pramudita, (4) Santa, (5) Deen, (6) Ati-Dukhi, (7) Vikal, (8) Khala & (9) Kopa.

Conditions of being Deeptadi: When a planet is in its exaltation signs or Mool Trikone it is said to be in its Deeptavastha; in its own sign, Swastha; in that of a friend, Pramudita; in that benefic planets, Santa; in that of an enemy sign, Deena; when associated with malefics, Khala; with the Sun, kopa; moreover if in their fall, Bheet (frightened) and if eclipsed by the Sun, Vikala.

Planets are powerful if they are brightest; when they are defeated in war by other planets, they are afflicted. At the time of conjunction the planet on the South of the other is considered defeated.

Effects of these Avasthas: During the Dasa of a planet if it is in its Deeptamsa (degree) the native gets recognition from the Govt, encouragement, fame, wealth, Conveyance, life partner, progeny, reputation and recognition from the friends, relatives and the State.

During the Dasa of the planet in its Swasthamsa the native enjoys a calm of mind, wealth from the Govt, happiness, education, fame, love and affection from the partner, accumulation of wealth, land and enlightenment.

During the Dasa of a Planet, if it is Pramudita, there is gain of dress material, land, scents, sons, wealth, patience and courage, hearing of scriptures, weapons etc. conveyance, shawals and ornaments.

During the Dasa of planet, if it is in Santavastha, there is gain of happiness, confidence, sons, land, wife, conveyance, education, learning of scriptures, respect and honour from the State.

During the Dasa of planet, it if is in a Deenavastha, there is termination of service, dispute with the family members, living through criminal and low ways, separation and sickness.

During the Dasa of a planet, if it is in a Ati-Dukhiavastha, there is a lot of suffering, foreign travel, separation from the family and danger from thieves, fire and the king.

During the Dasa of a planet, if it is Vikal, the native suffers from malice, worries, death of the friends, trouble for wife and children, loss of conveyance and clothes and from thieves.

During the dasa of planet, if it is Khala, the native suffers on account of disputes, separation, death of father, lose of wealth, land, own people and enemies, and censured by clansmen.

During the Dasa of a planet, if it is in Kopaavastha the native suffers from various sins, lose of education, wealth, wife, son, relatives, trouble from progeny and eye sore.

Yogajphal have been computerized wherever it has been found necessary is order to find out the degree of good or evil effects of the lords of the Vimshottari Dasa. How it has been computerized is given below:

1. Lords of the 2nd and the 12th house from the Lagna give effects according to the position of their other sign in the chart of associated with other planets. So these Lords of the 2nd and the 12th do no have their own individual characteristics and so have zero value.
2nd House = 0, 12th House = 0

2. According to the Laghu Parashari the Lord of the Angle is not a benefic unless it owns a Trine house also, besides it has been particularly specified that the 4th house over the 1st, 7th over the 4th and the 10th over the 7th is stronger. All this boils down to the fact that the effectiveness of the Lord of an Angle is comparatively less than that of a Trine House. Hence the effectiveness of the Angles is assigned from 1 to 4 and that of the Trines from 5 to 7; such as,
Lagna = +1,4th House = +2,7th House =+3,10th House =+4
Lagna as Trine = +5,5th House =+ 6,9th House =+7
Triksthanas are always evil house; no planet if owns it alone can be good. The strongest of the Trine i.e. the 9th house has been assigned +7 (degrees) and its opposite, the evil 3rd house, is recognised with -7 (degrees) that of the 6th, evil number, as -8, and that of the 11th-9.
3rd House =-7,6th House =-8,11th House =-9

4. Lord of the 8th House destroys the effects of the house it occupies but this dosh (flaw) is inoperative if it occupies the 8th House itself Hence the value of the 8th in the 8th House (Ashtmasth is Ashtmesh) is fixed as Zero. If this Lord of the 8th owns the Trine it will become good, and occupying a Trik house, it will become evil if the Lord of the 8th House does not occupy the 8th then its value is fixed as -8. In such circumstances even if it owns a Trine it does not become good.
8th House =0 If occupied by its own Lord
8th House =0 If not occupied by its own Lord
Result:
From +0 to +4 neutral (same)
From +4 to +13 Good (Shubh)
From -1 to -17 Evil (Ashubh)

In this chart the 2nd-12th, Angles, Trines, Trik and the 8th are all different groups. In its own group the 2nd house over the 1st is progressively powerful. Therefore if any Lord of the 4th House own the 7th also then its counting amongst the benefics will not be +2+3=+5; rather its good effects will be limited to +3, as it owns the Angle only and amongst the Angles the 7th is stronger over the 4th. If that Lord of the 4th also owns the 5th House then it will be owning on Angles and a Trine – two different groups – and then their counting amongst the benefics will be +2+6=+8.

In the same way if the Lord of the 3rd owns the 6th also then it will remain a Trishdai and the counting if its evil effects will not be -7-8 = -15, rather it will remain -8 only as the 6th is stronger over the 3rd in evil effects. When the Lord of the 8th, not occupying the 8th, owns the 11th the counting in evil effects will be -8-9 =-17 as the 8th & the 11th belong to two different groups & differ in nature.

The 2nd & the 7th are the Maraka House; Moon, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter as their Lords are considered Marakas in Ayurdaya. By virtue of their such position the native meets his end. If they happen to be goods as detailed above the end of the native will be peaceful and if the native does not meet his death, their Dasa and Antar though painful will find in comfort. If they are malefic, the end is bad.

In Scorpio Asc. Chart Mars owns the 6th House and therefore is evil. In its Dasa and Antar of the good but markesh Jupiter the native comes out victorious in his disputes but this happens after a lot of harm.

Madhya Parashari has been added as this part of the book has been designed by the author to provide with the supplementary rules of Astrology for the guidance of the readers in a nutshell.

In the end I would like to express my gratitude to Shri Vivek Seth for his valueable help. I am also grateful to Narinder Sagar of Sagar Publications for prompting me to render Laghu Parashari into English.
