Book Description
Preface

Research is an on-going process. It is defined as systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources etc. in order to establish facts and reach new conclusion. In the present context the material and source of knowledge is based upon Ayurveda, which is not merely a medical science, but a philosophy of life. In Kasyapa Sarphita. a known book of ayurvedic science, sixty four types of puerperal diseases along with the management of puerperium (Sutika Svasthavrtta) is described in detail. Accordingly, the methods of management based upon vast experiences are being used in practice since long traditionally. That is why, the ancient holistic knowledge of Ayurveda was called as "Traditional Medicine" in the past by the western scientists. Keeping in view, it is very much essential to examine the scattered material with the help of modem scientific tools for want of re-establish facts in the present era.

As regards to undertake this particular Study, I was inspired from those mothers, who suffered a lot during puerperium, while I started my teaching carrier in the subject of Prasuti - Strlroga (Obstetrics and Gynaecology). I am very much thankful to Dr. S.D.Kapoor, Former Professor of NIHFW and Chairman ofP.A.C., who co-operated me in every step to carry out this Project. It is my prime duty to pay thanks to the authorities of W.H. 0., who assisted fmancially for completion of the Project. I am extremely thankful to Dr. S.K.Chaudhuri, the then D.H.S. and Shri Ramesh Chandra, the then Principal Secretary (H. & F.W.) Govt. of Delhi, for their administrative help. I cannot forget to pay thanks to Mr. Praveen Kant, who assisted me in analysis and processing of data related to the Study. I am also thankful to Dr. Kalpana, the then R.O. of the Project, who collected the data carefully. Finally, I am thankful to MIS Krishnadas Academy, Varanasi, who agreed for its publication.

I shall be grateful, if this Study would add a new dimension in the field of research in Ayurveda.
