Description

About the Book:

This book entitled Socio-Economic Ideas in Ancient Indian Literature brings out the great richness of the ancient Indian literature and also demonstrates the relevance of the Indian classical thoughts for the contemporary challenges of life. It contains many innovative suggestions for realising maximum human welfare in the midst of the present-day social, cultural and the political setting. It has compiled, at one place, the excerpts from the different sources of the Indian classical literature, dealing with the diverse subjects such as Agriculture, Animals, Plants, Forest and Gardens, Food and Drinks, Education and Environment. Two interesting themes of contemporary relevance, viz. Corruption such as Krsiparasara, Vrksayurveda etc. have also been quoted. The Sanskrit quotations are drawn from diverse sources such as Vedas, Puranas, Upanisads, Smrtis, and literary compositions. The various chapters contain brief discussion of the themes and translations of the Sanskrit quotations in English.

The style of presentation in the volume is very lucid and communicative. The book is commended both to the scholars and to the students of the Indian classical literature.
