Tulsidas is rightly considered as one of the most influential poet-saints and philosophers that India has ever produced. His Ramacharitmanas, which retells the story of Lord Rama in a disarmingly simple language, has proved to be a touchstone of perfect art so much so that the devoted readers over the centuries have been inclined to identify the writer with the very text of the great epic. The present concise biography seeks to put the life and achievements of Tulsidas in the proper socio-religious contexts. One of its endevours is also to demystify many of the episodes related to the personality of the great writer. A section of representative selections from Tulsidas' original writings in Devnagari script with paraphrase in English is likely to be useful to the young readers.
