Understanding Hinduism
Understanding Hinduism
Description
From the Jacket:

Understanding Hinduism is a creative attempt to connect scholarly research with the daily life of Hindu devotees. It is a true introduction to the complexity of Hindu phenomena, discussing the basic meaning of "Hinduism" and surveying its origins, scriptures, rituals, doctrines and modern trends.

Its author is deeply in touch with the issues and concerns of modern Hindus and as a reformer seeks to bridge the chasm between objective scholarship and Hindu practice. Though affirming diversity he is not afraid to censure or commend, but does so in light of careful historical and sociological analysis. His focus is always on the practical life of devotees.

The author hopes this book will impact India's modern generation, which is adrift from its rich cultural heritage. Scholars will be alerted to practical Hindu concerns. Scholarly perspectives will stimulate and help the devotee.

About the Author:

Dayanand Bharati's origins are in Tamil Nadu, where he still spends most of his time. He is no armchair academic, rather a pilgrim and continues to travel extensively around India, interacting with fellow-pilgrims of manifold persuasions. He enjoys plats and gardening almost as much as books and reading.

The best and fastest service worldwide - I am in Australia and I put in a big order of books (14 items) on a Wednesday; it was sent on Friday and arrived at my doorstep early on Monday morning - amazing! All very securely packed in a very strong cardboard box. I have bought several times from Exotic India and the service is always exceptionally good. THANK YOU and NAMASTE!

I wanted to let you know how happy we are with our framed pieces of Shree Durga and Shree Kali. Thank you and thank your framers for us. By the way, this month we offered a Puja and Yagna to the Ardhanarishwara murti we purchased from you last November. The Brahmin priest, Shree Vivek Godbol, who was visiting LA preformed the rites. He really loved our murti and thought it very paka. I am so happy to have found your site , it is very paka and trustworthy. Plus such great packing and quick shipping. Thanks for your service Vipin, it is a pleasure.
