Introduction

The literal translation of the world Vyayama is to tame the inner breath. This Sanskrit term is composed to two words yama which means to same and vya, which means to stimulate to incite.

Vyayama Yoga is the discipline that teachers you to tame the energy that comes from air through breathing.

Its different meanings show us the depth of the technique :

Drag and brake down any solid subtle or mental structure
Separate essential elements filling the core
Fight between bodies
Struggle to achieve a goal
Warrior combat
That which enables you to successfully make efforts
Efforts for self-improvement

In all of these definitions we find a common denominator expression of force in combination with breath that gives a character of energetic exercise providing the possibility to model the body and strengthen in a notable way.

Breath control causes different amounts of oxygen consumption combustion and hence different amounts of energy production to apply to body movement.

One of the basic principles of the practice is that all movements must have its origin in breathing. This means that all the movements have to be coordinated by a concrete type of breathing. The importance of this coordination is based as previously stated, in a better utilization of body energy which comes from nutrients and directly from breathing.

The effective control of breathing is one of the most important capabilities of the human being. We could be forty days without eating far fewer without water but we could barley sustain life some minutes without breathing. Breathing is the primal source of nourishment in our lives and the basis of all the processes that support life.

Breath control means achieving the capacity to control our vital processes and unveil the key to contain our energy. There is an intimate connection between body mind and energy the alteration of one influence the other two. Through Vyayama Yoga practice we learn to control breathing and with that the movement of our mind.

Keeping in mind the previous concepts it is not strange that this ancient practice was being utilized in India (Bharata Varsha) as the essential training for warriors yogis practitioners of martial arts dancers and performers.
