Offering To The Lord Ganesha

$45
A regally bedecked Lord Ganesha reclines on His ornate, cushioned throne. The trunk of His elephantine head curves up mere inches above the laddoo in His hand, while He gazes straight ahead of Himself with all the handsomeness and wisdom of His demeanour. He is dressed in flowing pink silks, with a crown of rose-coloured jewels to match. The Shaivite trident is tattooed on His gracious brow. Zoom in on the black of His curls, which contrasts sharply with the pristine halo behind His head. From the implements in each of His four hands - He is the chaturbhujadhari Lord Ganesha - to the offerings spread out in the foreground, this batik painting is proof of the artisan’s devotion to the Lord. A bowl of fresh fruits to the left, a tray heaped high with laddoos in the centre, and a copy of the Mahabharata beneath the pooja-thali to the right of the painting. Note the thick splotches of cream and carmine on the top of the painting, a signature aspect of authentic batik paintings.
