Simhavahini Ashtabhujadharini Devi Parvati

$105
On a throne of blue velvet sits the fair Devi Parvati. She is ashtabhujadhari, the one possessed of (‘dhari’) eight (‘ashta’) arms (‘bhuja’); much like Her Durgaroopa manifestation, each of those hands bears a weapon that empowers Her to battle adharma, and Her vahana the simha (lion) is seated at Her feet. A gold-rimmed halo of cool blue frames Her face, and a crown of gold and rubies graces Her brow. A bejewelled parasol towers high above Her, in keeping with the temple iconography of Hindu deities.

A composure of serenity and equanimity characterises Her face. Large beauteous eyes glowing like the emeralds dangling from Her earlobes. Lotus petal motifs in abundance down the skirts of Her saree. The wife of Lord Shiva is seated in the midst of a bare landscape, the unusually pristine colour of which sets off the blues and golds and reds of the foreground ensemble. A subtle tinge of green transitions into brown across the sky, which ends in a simplistic extended silhouette of clouds against deep blue.
