This necklace consists of ten images of the Sun god, known in Sanskrit as Surya. The depiction of Surya is stylized, complete with moustaches and the Urdhapundra tilak of the Vaishnavites. Also notable are the protruding eyes, symbolic of the fiery nature of the Sun, and the petal-like rays, encircling his face in a glorified halo.

Hanging below are small ghungroo bells. It is believed that the charming tinkle of these small ghungroos elicits an appropriate erotic response in men.

Attached above are kalash shaped patterns. The kalash in the Indian belief is a symbol of the bounty of nature, and thus indeed the fertilizing quality of the Sun.
