Mughal miniatures abound in the picturesque, the remote and the unknown - all of which are the impassioned projections of the romantic spirit. The pomp and ceremony of the Mughal court formed the theme for many a paintings but yogis and ascetics, musicians and the common man also found a place.

In this miniature, there is a tendency towards simplification of style. The composition is less complex; space more flattened and the colouring subtle and sophisticated. The three travellers travelling in the same direction decide to rest at the fall of day. They see a cluster of huts with urns of water and decide it to be an appropriate place to spend the night. One of them, the musician, sits cross-legged playing the music instrument. He seems relaxed by his own soothing music. Next to him sits the hunter, the frown on his forehead indicating that he is either tensed or anxious on some account. He holds the bow close to him and the arrows lie strewn. An ascetic in white clothes looks far into space. Resting against his leg are the meagre belongings, all that he owns.

In the background, the trees against the setting sun look picturesque lending vibrancy to the somber milieu.
