Description
Brihaspati is the Teacher of the Gods. Thursday is known as Brihaspativar or Guruwar in Hindi. Brihaspati was the preceptor of gods, and is regarded as identical with Agni, almost the same epithets being applied to both in the Vedic hymns. He is considered to be the heavenly prototype of the earthly purohita or family priest and an authority in the magical power of spells, invocations and prayers.

Brihaspati is mentioned in the Rig Veda as born in the sky with seven faces and seven rays. However, his representation varies. We see him here as one with a golden complexion, holding a conch and a trident and riding a black elephant.

"If a person be born under this planet, he will be endowed with an amiable disposition, possess palaces, gardens and be prosperous. He will possess much religious merit and have all his wishes gratified."

This description by Renu Rana.
