Pictures created during the Mughal period are graphic documents that make the age alive and exciting. Romance and dalliance during this era was common.

Through an oval window in the rectangular frame, we see a couple romancing. Wine and women have always been bracketed together. Using his arm to draw his beloved closer, he also pours wine into the tiny goblet that she holds. He constantly looks deep into her eyes. As a gesture of half-hearted resistance, she puts a hand on his shoulder but her body language is vocal. Her eyes too, are filled with desire as a victorious smile plays on her lips. Her dress, her jewellery, her henna stained hands are all tools to make her look more beautiful, hence, more desirous. The man also wears a fine jama and royal ornaments – a sarpech decorating his turban, strands of pearls and a finely crafted sheath of his sword.

The painting, besides playing with colours, exudes erotic emotion. The border between the oval and the rectangle is stylistically done up in gold vines and the outer border in a dark colour.
