Standing on tribhanga on a lotus, is the goddess with a veena in the two front hands, as she is also the patroness of arts and music as that of eloquence and learning. To depict the latter, she holds a manuscript in the left hand. Dressed in rich ornaments literally from head to toe: an elaborate Karanda mukuta, necklaces reaching down to her waist, armlets, bracelets, waist belt and anklets, she looks exquisite. To add to that are her arched brows, fish-shaped eyes and a smile playing on her lips. The body proportions are meticulously measured - the narrow waist, the wide hips, the curvaceous bosom; so much so that the long, delicate fingers of her four hands curve gracefully as they hold the attributes.
The aura of the image and the energy that it emanates spreads knowledge and wisdom. Indeed, Sarasvati's image in places of learning creates such an ambience.
