An Image of Archetypal Simplicity

Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Life, is represented here in his traditional iconography. He sits in the diamond posture, with both hands flat in his lap, holding a beautiful vase. He is seated on a double lotus pedestal with petals outlined in gold.

Amitayus is shown richly clad. His hair is painted blue and falls on either side of his shoulders. He has elongated earlobes like the Shakyamuni Buddha and has the urna (an auspicious tuft of hair between the eyebrows signifying superhuman quality).

The image of Amitayus has both a simplicity and archetypal quality to it. His demeanor is totally relaxed complemented by his hands are in the Dhyana mudra, the mudra of meditation.
