Chikan work is the traditional thread work of Lucknow which has been followed from time immemorial. They have been done by the Muslim women from the time of the Nawabs of Awadh. Done in white threads on crisp cottons they come only in pastel shades and take inspiration from the flora of the country, the favorite motif being the mango leaves done in a Persian style with the front part delicately curving downwards.

This sari comes in a pastel shade of light mauve with white thread work. There are floral butis on the body of the sari. The border also has continuos flowers running from one end to the other. The pallav is very rich with large mango leaves artistically filled in with flowers. Below the mango leaves is intricate thread work.
