Description
Kanjivarams are the age-old sari weaving traditions followed in the temple town of Kanchipuram in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Woven in the temple town they acquire a special significance. Kanjivaram silks come in different weights of silk, ranging from light to heavy. In the southern part of India they form an unmistakable part of the weddings and other auspicious occasions. The weaves are exquisite and are often woven with pure gold zari threads increasing their value. Indeed Kanjivarams are the pride of south India.

This sari is another attraction to ones formal and wedding collection. The body of the sari is in a bright magenta color with double checks woven in zari threads. The zari threads on magenta give the sari a royal look. Large butis are scattered within the checks and gives fullness to the sari. The border is woven on both sides of the sari and entirely in zari threads. The border is narrow and is woven in a close floral pattern. Large mango and peacock patterns on the thin floral border make the border look quite broad and also traditional.

The main attraction of the sari is the rich pallav woven entirely in zari threads. The close weave of the pallav gives it a rich look. The zari pallav complements the body of the sari perfectly. The main part of the pallav is a combination of floral and mango leaf patterns woven inside rhombus shaped patterns. This is set within sculpted patterns on each end of the sari. The pallav really sets the sari apart and make sit a prized possession.
