Batik is a variety of tie and dye technique that is practiced in Indonesia
and the name also has an Indonesian origin. Batik is a kind of resist dye
where the design is drawn and the areas which are to be dyed with a
different color, are waxed. When the cloth is dipped in color the areas that
are waxed do not get colored and then a separate color is applied to the
rest of the cloth. Batik is considered very traditional and auspicious in
the Indonesian religious life. Every religious occasion in Indonesia has the
symbolism of Batik in it.
This batik sari comes in a off-white background and abstract red batik print
all over the body of the sari. The border also consists of abstract yellow
and white geometrical patterns on a red background. The pallav is
beautifully set on a a red background with large mango leaf patterns amongst
a floral border.
This is a simple yet elegant sari.
