American Experience and Other Articles
American Experience and Other Articles
Description
Back of the book:

American Experience and Other Articles is a collection of lectures and addresses delivered by Rabindranath Tagore in America and other countries across the world. In 'American Experience', the author relates his trip to the USA in 1916-17, where he faced a hostile reaction from Liberal Americans, to his ideas on civil society. In Other lectures, Tagore is seen to propagate, to Western audiences, Indian philosophy and values as encompassed in her socio-cultural milieu.

This selection presents to us a record of the continuous growth of Tagore's thoughts and ideas during the last thirty years of his distinguished career. Apart from their literary merit, these articles can be used as reference for modern Indian thought.

About the Author:

One of India's most cherished Renaissance figures, Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) put the country on the literary may of the world when his Gitanjali was awarded the Noble Prize for Literature in 1913. A poet's poet, he is maker of not only modern Indian literature but also the modern Indian mind. Myriad-minded, he was a poet, short story writer, novelist, dramatist, essayist, painter and composer of songs. Gandhi called him the 'Great Sentinel'. His world-wide acclaim as a social, political, religious and aesthetic thinker, innovator in education and a champion of the 'One World' idea makes him a living presence.
