Diabetics and Diet
Description
About the Book:

This book is a practical, easy-to-read, well-thought out guide to healthy living and diabetes management. The basics of health issues that are used to defeat diabetes are sound advice for maintaining good health, whether you have diabetes or not.

This book gives practical information about understanding the glycogenic index of foods. Sample menus and suggested servings that ensure nutritional adequacy without excessive calories are included. Blood-sugar levels and factors affecting them are clearly explained. The chronic degenerated diseases associated with obesity are highlighted and all facets of fitness are addressed. A chapter on how pregnant women can cope with diabetes deserves mention.

Preface:

Diabetes is called the silent disease, because it usually sneaks up on you without warning. It can start with feelings of over-whelming tiredness, or a need to eat even though you feel full to capacity. It sometimes shows up as a blurry vision or as flashes of light. You might have a headache that lingers on past the aspiring that you have taken, or a cut or sore that does not heal.

Like most people you will ignore these signs by blaming them on stress or too little rest. After a while, the silent disease becomes too noisy to ignore. Perhaps you lose several kilos without being on a diet, or you have numbness or tingling in your hands that makes you fear a stroke or tumour. You know something is wrong that should be attended to by a doctor.

After hearing your symptoms, the doctor suspects that you have diabetes. Still, a diagnosis cannot be made until at least a random plasma glucose test is done. This test is the simplest way to detect diabetes because it measures the amount of blood glucose in your system. It can be done without fasting to see if diabetes is possibly the problem.

If you test positive, then a weight seems to settle on your shoulders. The prospects of living on drugs and insulin injections for life are frightening.

But it does not have to be deadly. If you respect diabetes, you can survive it without any fear.

This book is a step-by-step guide for controlling diabetes. It is sound, up-to-date and comprehensive.

From the Introduction:

Diabetes was once regarded as one of the more serious diseases, but today it is easily controlled and managed. A patient's participation in the treatment goes a long way in averting long-term complications, and hence has a significant impact on a better quality of life. Physiological control and good health are essential in altering the progression of this disease.

Unlike other diseases, diabetes involves your entire body, from your body organ systems to the mind. Controlling your diabetes on day-to-day basis can require a lot of self-discipline. Those who have lived life fully with the fullest complications and the best control have been those who have focused their active lifestyles around good health habits and dietary control as well as proper insulin therapy, and a general reduction of high risk factors for disease. Planning for good health involves continuing education in your disease.

Testimonials
Thank you very much. Your sale prices are wonderful.
Michael, USA
Kailash Raj’s art, as always, is marvelous. We are so grateful to you for allowing your team to do these special canvases for us. Rarely do we see this caliber of art in modern times. Kailash Ji has taken the Swaminaryan monks’ suggestions to heart and executed each one with accuracy and a spiritual touch.
