Description

About the Book:

Malnutrition can lead to a host of aliments for young and old, male or female. And despite the best efforts, it becomes difficult to meet all our nutritional requirements from everyday food sources, making one feel listless. That is where Spirulina - the world's most powerful food- comes in. Spirulina is an excellent source of macro-nutrients that are ever so essential in promoting good health and well-being.

This book outlines the preventive, therapeutic and restorative properties of Spirulina. The richest sources of protein, it also contains very rich amounts of beta-carotene, B vitamins and minerals. All of which makes Spirulina the world' best extremely digestible, high-energy, low-fat natural super-food.

About the Author:

B.V. Umesh, a chemical engineer by training, worked on renewable energy in the initial years of his career. Thereafter, he devoted himself to developing a technology for large-scale cultivation of Spirulina algae. He joined the Murugappa Chettiar research Centre at Chennai in 1979. in 1992, he was the joint recipient of the National Research & Development Corporation of India's Republic Day Award for the best invention for the process of Mass Culture of Spirulina. The process was also patented. In 1995, the world Intellectual Property Organisation, Geneva, awarded him a gold medal for this process.

With Sanat Products Limited since 1993, Mr Umesh was instrumental in setting up their Spirulina production facilities in Sikandrabad, UP, and in Dindigul, Tamilnadu.

Preface

As head of the Dabur Research Foundation, I have, for many years, been excited by the remarkable potential of herbs for promoting health and well- being. Certainly, this will come as no surprise to those of you who are familiar with, or have trusted, traditional Ayurvedic remedies for preventing and treating health disorders. What might surprise you, however, is that modern clinical studies and trials have now scientifically endorsed the therapeutic properties of many common and not-so-common herbs, and that such remedies are now increasingly becoming popular with Western medical practitioners. One of the reasons for the resurgence of traditional herbal remedies is their proven efficacy combined with safety.

I was, therefore, delighted to learn that a series of simply written booklets was planned to spread awareness of the multiple health benefits of many indigenously available plants. They will then know why the world has recognised the usefulness of nutraceuticals for treating and preventing a host of common ailments, and chornic disorders-like arthritis, obesity, nutritional deficiencies, stress, memory loss, constipation, and the like.

I believe, particularly, in the remarkable potential of the super algae, Spirulina, hailed around the world over the past few decades. This microalgae is one of the richest and most balanced sources of essential micronutrients that I have ever encountered. It is my hope that readers will benefit from its miraculous properties and that one day, Spirulina will be in every home, and taken by every single man, woman and child.
