The Evolution of Khyal
The Evolution of Khyal
Description
Preface

This monograph, originally entitled 'Prabhand, Dhrupad and Khyal, was written in Marathi and read on 23 November 1974 before a select audience of musicians. Musicologists and litterateurs of Maharashtra, invited by the Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh, Bombay. The monograph in Marathi and its translation into Hindi were published in Sangita Kala Vihar (Vol : 28, Nos. 4 & 5). Some modifications have been made in the present translation into English to make it presentable to non-Marathi audience.

I have to thank my friend Sri S. B. Joshi of the National Library, Calcutta, for tracing and translating from Bengali into English the passages from Pandit Krishnadhan Bandopadhyay's book quoted by Pandit V.N. Bhatkhande, without giving any references whatsoever, Dr. S.H. Deshpande, Dr. B.R. Dhekne and Prof. J.D. Swamidasan for going through the manuscript and making valuable suggestions and Dr. P.L. Deshpande, Sri Vijay Tendulkar and Sangeet Natak Akademi for the present publication.

I am a long-time customer of Exotic India for gifts for me and friends and family. We are never disappointed. Your jewelry craftspeople are very skilled artists. You must treasure them. And we always look forward to the beautifully decorated boxes you use to ship your jewelry.

I have always enjoyed browsing through the website. I was recently in south India, and was amazed to note that the bronze statues made in Kumbakonam and Thanjavur had similar pricing as Exotic India.
