About the Author:

He is Professor of History , Delhi University. He was educated at presidency College, Calcutta and took his Ph.D from Calcutta University. He has taught at Burdwan and Calcutta Universities and been a visiting fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford. Professor Sarkar's publications include Swadeshi Movement in Bengal, 1903-08, Modern India and a Critique of Colonial India and research papers on the history of the national maovement and the social history of modern India. He is also a co-author of khaki shorts and Saffron Flags: A Critique of the Hindu Right (Delhi, 1993).
