Kayachikitsaa holistic approach of treatment mainly concerned with the disorders of the body and the mind, hence been given top priority among Astanga Ayurveda. Charaka Samhita the most important scripture on kayachikitsa hence we find majority of references from it when compared to Susruta and Vagbhata. Although there are many text books and excellent manuals devoted to Kayachikitsa. The speciality of this book is that it provides the essential information necessary with respective to the BAMS latest CCIM syllabus on Kayachikitsa, and thus relieve one from time and labor in searching through voluminous samhitas for principles of treatment and formulations of Kayachikitsa.

This book probably the first of its kind text book written for 2 papers pattern, and we hope it would be useful to all the medical practioners of Ayurveda and also to the final year students of BAMS at large in particular.

This book (1" volume) covers entire syllabus pertaining to 1" paper. In this we find discussion on the basic principles of treatment, various types of therapies to rectify the imbalance caused by dosha, dhatu and mala. Importance of kayachikitsa discussed with reference to agni and tridoshavaishamya elaborately. A new add up topic in the syllabus "Rogirogaparikshasiddhanta" an important pre requisite before initiating treatment is vividly described. Different types of chikitsa like Rogaanutpattikarachikitsa, avaranachiktsa, and shdvidhopakrama and Iinadoshachikitsa etc., were explained with relevant references from Samhita. Patterns of chikitsa like dwividhopakrama, Shadvidhopakrama detailed along with anupana and pathyaapathya for each of the disease.

Knowledge about various types of Jwara according to both Ayurveda and Allopathy is described. Diseases pertaining to Rasa vaha and Raktavahasrotases and also the diseases related these srotas on modern parlance are also discussed and appropriate treatment in Ayurveda suggested.

An eloborate note is given on the awareness of National Health programmes, and also knowledge about different medical systems like Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy is imparted. The author of the book Dr P Srinivasa Rao MD (Ay)., Ph.D having 25 years of teaching experience in the subject Kayachikitsa, and is presently working as Professor and HOD in the post graduate department of kayachikitsa at SSR Ayurvedic medical college at inchal, Karnataka. He translated Astangasangraha, Bhela Samhita and Manas (psychiatry of Ayurveda) in to English.

Foreword

I am happy to write a foreword to the book entitled "KA Y ACHIKITSA" written by Dr P Srinivasarao. Kayachikitsa is a unique holistic approach to the treatment in Ayurveda, and it requires the student to refer many Ayurvedic texts to comprehend it. Present CCIM syllabus on kayachikitsa is limited to 2 papers, adding many topics on modem medicine and a topic on "Rogiparikshapaddhati" I know DR P Srinivasa Rao since many years as a teacher of repute who taughtkayachikitsa in various govt Ayurvedic colleges of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

I consider him to be deserving person to write the text book of Kayachikitsa as he has the experience as a teacher and also as an author who translated the bookssnamely "Astangasangraha" and "Bhelasamhita" in to English. And also, he wrote "Manas" Psychiatry of medicine. I appreciate Dr P Srinivasarao for his painstaking efforts in compiling the text taking relevant matter from different Ayurvedic texts to cover the entire syllabus stipulated by the CCIM. I hope this book would serve as a ready reckoner for the students appearing for final BAMS exams in the subject Kayachikitsa.

I congratulate him in this regard and wish him all success.

I consider this is the first text book written according to the syllabus of 2 papers pattern. I hope the book would be useful to all medical practioners of Ayurveda and also to the students of the final year BAMS at large.
