Description
Preface

This is a new edition of the Vikramorvasiya and the Malavikamitra. A compete English Translation of the entire has been printed just below the text for ready reference. The translation has been made as literal as possible. Words for which there were not equivalents in the original, but which were added to make the sense of the text compete or clearer, are put in rectangular brackets. Original Sanskrit words, which are more or less out-of-the-way or, which are sometimes freely rendered, or to the renderings of which attention is intended to be drawn, are enclosed in parenthesis. In the points which an ordinary student requires to be explained are explained. Extracts from the commentary of Jagaddhara are quoted frequently to elucidate several knotty points. Besides, information on general topics is given occasionally. Parallel versesand expressions from classical Sanskrit works are also cited. The introduction deals with all points that the student is expected to know in connection with the Malatimadhava. Very useful matter would be found in the various Appendices. My efforts are directed towards the goal of making the student understand his text his author. I have no doubt by use of this book, the student would be able to achieve both these objects.

In numbering the lines in the text, every is taken as a fresh starting point. On every even page, the line from the text at the top of the page is given, while on every odd page the line at the bottom of the page is given. This process is adopted in the Notes also.

I have occasionally consulted the editions of Bhandarkar, Kala and the Nirnayasagara press. I have to express my cordial thanks to Mr. R.D. Laddu, M.A., of Sir Parashurambhau College, and my former pupil Mr. G. N. Shrigondekar, B. A., of Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Poona, for the voluntary assistance they rendered me in carrying out this edition through the press. Lastly, I offer my thanks to the Managers of the Aryabhushan Press for their uniform courtesy and Kindness.

Testimonials
Kailash Raj’s art, as always, is marvelous. We are so grateful to you for allowing your team to do these special canvases for us. Rarely do we see this caliber of art in modern times. Kailash Ji has taken the Swaminaryan monks’ suggestions to heart and executed each one with accuracy and a spiritual touch.
