Mountain Echoes: Reminiscences of Kumaoni Women
Mountain Echoes: Reminiscences of Kumaoni Women
Description
About the Book

As India celebrate 50 years of Independence Roli books decided to focus on works of historical and contemporary relevance on themes that have hitherto remained neglected. These micro studies would not be confined to the scholarly community. Mountain Ecohas is an evocative recollection of life in the kumaon hills, through the eyes of four talented and highly individualistic women, all in or approaching their eighties. Witness to the transitions and paradigm shifts of the century, their testimony affirm the strength and vitality of Kumaoni culture and its tradition. This is a fascinating document of change and continuity, recounted with wit, humour and honesty.

About the Author

Namita Gokhale, nee Pant, is herself a Kumaoni by birth. Born in Lucknow in 1956, she spent her early childhood in Naintal. Her first novel, Paro, dreams of Passion, was published in 1984, Gods, Graves and Grandmother was published 1994, and A Himalayan Love Story in 1996. Namita Gokhale contributes regularly to several newspaper and magazines with focus on women's issues and current literary criticism.

Thank you so much for shipping Ma Shitala.  She arrived safely today on Buddha Purnima.  We greeted Her with camphor and conch blowing, and she now is on Ma Kali’s altar.  She is very beautiful.  Thank you for packing Her so well. Jai Ma

Great site! Myriad of items across the cultural spectrum. Great search capability, too. If it's Indian, you'll probably find it here.

I was very happy to find these great Hindu texts of the ancient times. Been a fan of both Mahabhratham and Ramayanam since I was a small boy. Now the whole family can enjoy these very important cultural texts at home.
