Preface

"Nidaan Panchaka” by late Vaidya Shri Shiv Charan Dhyani ji is a very interesting book laden with wonderful original concepts. This book is a treatise on the basic concepts of Pancha Nidana and it's always illuminating to read this book to understand the deep concepts in such simple words and to be able to picturize it in the mind. Concepts like-

What is the role of nidaan in the development of the disease ?

Whether disease is also caused by the ksheena doshas?

What is the difference between khavaigunya and sroto dushti?

Whether the doshas aggravate at their own site or in the whole body together?

How do the doshas aggravate and move in the body in the stages of shad kriyakala?

Whether purvarupa occur in all diseases?

What is the difference between roga and lakshana

What is the broader aspect towards the clinical applicability of the concept of Upashaya - Anupashaya? Have been elaborated very simplistically yet intricately in this book. I feel this book is a must read, at least once for all the undergraduate and postgraduate scholars of Ayurveda. It will help to clear many concepts and also ignite the development of new concepts in the readers.

This is english translation of original "Nidaan- Panchaka" in which every attempt has been made to keep the originality of the book and also add new ideas, which are added separately in the Vimarsha. This translation was done to help the dissemination of knowledge to the other non-Hindi belts of India. We hope the readers find the book useful. I heartily extend my deepest gratitude to the co-author for all his hard work and ideas right from inception to writing, proofing and in bringing the book in the present format. At this juncture, I would like to thank the publishers for providing us with all the required support and to our family members, who allowed us with their time to complete this work. Any suggestions for the improvement of the book are heartily welcome and we also heartily apologize for any mistake which might have crept in inadvertently.
