Description

Foreword

The purpose of life of any man is to join with the “Divine” which activates this earth; which activates even a worm here. All scriptures accept this “truth” that till the ‘salvation’ a man has to take birth again and again. Adhisankara affirms this fact in his “Bhajagovindham Grantha ‘as

“punarapi jananam punarapi maraNam .. ie.

.. Till a man attains Moksha he has necessarily to take birth repeatedly. Until he tries severely to take such steps for such a “great Union”, through ‘yoga’, Sri vidhya etc under the guidance of his Guru, his Janma does not stop. So, we don’t know why a man, knowing this great truth is hesitating always to learn yoga, practice “pranayama’ etc under a guidance of guru, or an institution, which is all available under his very nose!

.. So, to learn all steps of Yoga born here is a very fine book, called “The Perfect Sage”. This is a very interesting book in the sense that this narrates sweetly about a great “house holder Yogi”, ajnaani, by name Sri. Amarakavi Ramachandra or sidhdheswara, who lived in a very simple style in our own time till 4th Dec 1993 in Triplicane, Chennai. This book describes in easy words all his anecdotes, events of miracles like having appeared in Sushma form like any other Sidhdhar before the former President of India, Mr. V. V. Giri, having perfect dharsan of Sri. Kanchi Kamakshi, having seen in his front Kakabhujander Chiththar, Agapey Chiththar in Sthula (human) form etc. Reading these, one can understand how great sage he was.

.....Not only his Perfect divine anubhavams are described here in this wonderful book, but also his true findings, his true advices on Yoga as told and narrated by his Ishta Devatha Lord Ganapathy each night after 11 pm for about 25 years! Sacrificing his sleep, Swami Ramachandra (Amarakavi) had written such divine messages in quires of notebooks for the sake of mankind.

...His true and sincere disciple Sri. Prabodharan Sukumar has taken great pains to collect all his Guru’s details of true anubhavams, Miracles, and great works. He has wonderfully presented all anecdotes of his guru’s meetings with great peoples, VIPs like Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. V. V. Giri, Sri Prabhudas Patwari, Dr. T. M. P. Mahadevan, Sri K. K. Shah etc .. His narrations of this wonderful Sidhdha Njani s visits and getting blessings from Sri. Kanch i Paramacharya, Bhagavan Ramana are very much thrilling! Very pleasant!

.. I request all, as a yoga teacher for the last 30 years, to buy this strange and wonderful book of yoga, and to learn deeply the inner meanings of each term of yoga and practice with deep devotion, so that every one of you can enjoy the feeling of “Divine”!

Preface

This title “The Perfect Sage” by Prabhodaran Sukumar (alias) M. S. Sukumar is well timed in its arrival. The book reveals the spiritual anecdotes culled out from the life history of many great personalities and sages of this age.

The opening topics on yoga are excellent and are educative even to the experts in the field as they are not reading nor definitely found in any of the existing books in the market. The findings of Amarakavi siddeswara have been edited and presented for public digest in a lucid manner.

The great saints of this age have experienced a lot in many fashions. They are also presented the contacts of Amarakavi Siddeswara and his letters to them on varied occasions of spiritual importance are also found in the book. The pages depicting the life of saints like Sri Thiagaiah, Nehrur Sadasiva Brahmam, Sri Ramana of Thiruvannamalai, H. H. Kanchi Mahaswami as well as Singeri H. H. Sri Chandrasekara Bharathi Mahaswamigal and Sri Aurobindo are unusually interesting.

The author has allotted certain pages from chronological anecdotes and history of events in the life of Amarakavi Ramachandra, which are interesting to everyone including seers and saints of this age. The details of spiritual experiences of the great Amarakavi Siddeswara presented in many charts and tables are lessons to everyone. The spiritual people shall find it useful in their yogic pursuits. This book will be useful not only to the general readings public but also to those engaged in the study and practice of yoga, meditation, and research on Indian culture and Siddha cult. The public and government should patronize this wonder book in their libraries so that the purpose of the author in bringing out the text shall be fulfilled.

The author’s pain in the matter of collection of details and data are understood from the text. In a word, every reader should avail this book to uplift his experience and update his knowledge in Indian spiritual lore.

Introduction

Lord Sri Parthasarathy: “Thiru-valli-keni” is an ancient village of Chennai Pattinam. Once upon a time a famous religious and cultural heritage took place during the time of the great Pallava rulers. The Pallava kings built in this town a historical importance and monumental temple dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna. Another great significance of the temple is Lord Sri Krishna is worshiped here as Parthasarathy (as Chariot Driver “Sarathy” to his beloved friend Arjuna “Partha”) the dispeller of darkness, spreading his Divine Wisdom rays as Gita Upadesam in this holy place.

Needless to say, there is a good reason for such a preamble needed here to mention in the book, because Lord Parthasarathy divine grace after a span of thousands of years once again showered on our beloved Gurudev Sri Amarakavi Ramachandra. He was the chosen recipient of the Divine to hear His conch shell namely “Panchajanya” which is also the “Pranava” the cosmic sound of the eternal. It was in Thiru- valli-keni a new mile stone in his spiritual sadhana was embellished and the summit level of Supra Mental Planes are touched by him for the first time in the history of mankind for ever to remember. The final triumph of it is spiritual guidance with the unknown, from what is hitherto Supra Mental activity of one’s own being, in the phenomenal. The Divine tutored him as a unique favour by way of “Brahma Upadesam,” the mystic truths of life hidden and unknown.

My first contact: A brief account about my introduction with Swami Amarakavi Siddeswara is interesting to know about him. Sri Ramachandra after his retirement from Burma Shell Company shifted his residence from T. Nagar to Thiruvallikani in the year 1964. At that time he was in the age of sixties settled in Thiruvallikani and thereafter for nearly 30 years till his last days he lived as a simple man.

Our family is living in the same house at Thiruvallikani, for more than 60 years. Next to my residence Swami Amarakavi was living from 1964, though I knew swami right from my boyhood days, I was not drawn to him at the outset. Swami was well built with good physic but he never exhibited any of his yogic qualities in the public and therefore it was very difficult to recognize him. He just looked like any other ordinary retired person but if we talk to him there is something which really attracts towards him. He used to wear a simple dress a dhoti on his waist with a full shirt (Jibbha) and sometimes covered his body with Ram Nam Kaavi cloth.

Right from my younger days, I was interested in practising Yoga Asanas and reading many spiritual books and Puranas etc. Many a time I was in contact with Arya Samaj in Chennai, Maharishi Mahesh yogi’s Transcendental Meditation practice and later with Sri Ramana Ashram of Tiruvannamalai and Sri Aurobindo Ashram of Pondicherry, The spiritual zeal was just like a burning fire within me. I was searching for spiritual knowledge here and there and wandering from place to place. See the fun! It was very close to me! In other words it was available next to my door but alas! I was not able to tap it till the year 1980. There is a good proverb in Tamil:

“When the Butter is in hand, what is the need in searching for Ghee.”

It all happened as God willed. I first came into contact with Amarakavi Ramachandra in 1981 in connection with his second bookwork - The Secret of Tapas. One day it was a pleasant evening roughly about 4 P.M. enjoying the cool Marina sea breeze. (Triplicane area is nearby Marina Beach) I was casually standing outside my house. I saw him also standing near the steps of his house. He just smiled at me and I reciprocated. He then walked slowly and approached me and told in a low voice:

“I have written one book on Yoga. When you have free time please come to my house. 1 will show you the rest!”

That was my first Divine call and I obeyed its command. But my thought went in a different way at that time, wondering myself how can retired people without any knowledge on yoga write books and that too on spiritual subjects! Anyhow let me go to his house and see what is in it. I was quite amused at the formality and curious at knowing what the experience would be! I realized later it is all purely my ignorance and under- estimation in judging a person on his simple appearance.

The next day morning I went to his house and Sri Ramachandra asked me to sit near him. He showed me two titles of his printed books, started elaborating the topics and steadily picked up talks on Vedanta and Advaita philosophy. His teachings were totally new to me and I found it very difficult to understand. Even though I have lot of doubts on the subject, throughout the talk I never opened my mouth to raise a single question nor did I interrupt in the middle. But there was a unique spiritual attraction towards him, which I was not able to express myself what it was.

Vibhuthi Adigal: From then onwards for nearly 12 years upto 1993 till his last “Brahma Samadhi” period I had a rare opportunity to serve him under his guidance and care. That was really a wonderful and memorable period in my life. It was Sri. Vijaya kumar a great devotee of “Lord Hanuman,” a brilliant and intelligent boyhood friend, who was instrumental in bringing me together with Sri Ramachandra. He was serving this swami with great devotion and affection and he is the first disciple of him. Sri Ramachandra used to call him affectionately as “Vibhuthi Adigal” because his face was always fresh with holy ash in his forehead as the symbol of Trinity.

Sri Ramachandra had graced us to keep be near him and shared with us great truths of his spiritual experiences, now and then narrating important turn of events during his lifetime. Sri Ramachandra threw open many truths hitherto unknown, never before heard by us as such on Vedas and Upanishads, Metaphysical study of cosmos, Brahma Tatwas, Mysticism, Transcendental Meditation, various dimensions of Human Breathing and Speech, “Ashtanga Yoga Marga, Mantra, Tantra, Yantra Sastra Rahasya of Sri Vidya Upasana, Advaita philosophy of Sri Adhi Sankara, life stories of Siddha Mahapurushas” and their unique and mystic way of spiritual practices told at length and breath on many days.
