The Ramayana For Children
The Ramayana For Children
Description

From the Back of the Book:

The Ramayana is one of the best-known epics in the world, the tale of Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, who exiles himself to the forest for fourteen years to honour his father's word. In the forest, Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana meet new friends and strange foes, and each day brings new adventures. But their happy life is spoilt when Ravana of Lanka, the king of demons, abducts Sita. To rescue her Rama enlists the help of the monkey army. In that final battle, many heroes did and new ones are born.

In this vividly told, vibrant version for children, the ancient epic takes on a new life. The traditional ingredients are all there - adventure and experiment, love and war, and an infinite number of stories within stories; as are the traditional characters - monkeys who cross oceans and carry mountains, shape-changing demons and monsters. But it is rendered contemporary by the freshness and vitality of Bulbul Sharma's retelling, and by the zany and exuberant illustrations by K.P. Sudesh, one of the most compelling young artists of today.

About the Author:

K.P Sudesh completed his post-graduation from the College of Art, Delhi. He has exhibited at the National Exibition of Art at the Lalit Kala Akademi, AIFACS and the Indian international Centre. He has won several awards from, among others, the National Museum, the Sahitya Kala Parishad, AIFACS and the College of Art, Delhi. His work can be found in the Cottage Industries Exposition, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and in private collections across the world.

Babul Sharma is an artist and a writer. She also works as an art teacher for children with special needs. She has written a novel, Banana-flower Dreams, three collections of short stories, and Tales of Fabled Beasts, God and Demons for children.

I have always enjoyed browsing through the website. I was recently in south India, and was amazed to note that the bronze statues made in Kumbakonam and Thanjavur had similar pricing as Exotic India.
