षष्ठी (सुब्रह्मण्य) व्रत पूजा- Shashthee (Subrahmanya) Vrata pooja

Vratas and Poojaas are generally performed by people to get the blessings of the God for prosperity and healthy long life. "Shashti Vrata Poojaa" is one among such important Poojaas. It is performed with a view to obtain the blessings of Lord Subrahmanya

The Shashti Day falls on the Tamil Month Aippasi or Karthigai Shukla Paksha every year. It is celebrated as "Kanda Shashti" by the devotees. Lord Subrahmanya is the son of the Almighty Shiva. He destroyed the evil forces led by the Asura Surapadman, his brothers Simhamukhan, Thaarakaashuran and his son Baanukopan. Lord Subrahmanya saved the world by releasing the Devas from bondage. Kanda Shashti" is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Subrahmanya. By offering prayers to Lord. Subrahmanya and performing Vrata poojaas on this auspicious day devotees are relieved of prolonged illness, crued of mental afflictions, diseases and so on. It is also further believed that Lord Subrahmanya answers special prayers for begetting children on performing the "Kanda Shashti Vrata Poojaa" with pure mind and devotion.
