Description
Preface

This booklet is the result of the quest of Mr. 8c Mrs. William from Iyreland to know what type of true education can be an instrument to the all- round development of personality and how the peace and co-existence be established among the mankind irrespective of the creed and cast, through- out the globe. We went on pondering and discussing over these topics very often for one year. Finally, we arrived at a conclusion over the Veda being the most ancient sacred literature of the world, a small collection of relevant mantra; related to the topics be selected and presented in original with transliteration in Roman along with English and Hindi Translations, keeping in view the globle readers.

Accordingly, mantra; were selected from the Vedic texts. The Gayatri mantra being the best one of all because of its aspiration for knowledge has been placed on the top. Then follows the prayer of both the teacher and the taught to the Almighty to grant them power to work hard together for the achievement of the knowledge. Then follows the invocation to Vacaspati, the lord of speech, so that the knowledge acquired from the teacher or elsewhere may station in him, never to depart. Then follows a diologue between the Goddess of learning and the teacher highlighting the eligibility and qualities of a student to whom knowledge should be imparted. Then follows a hymn devoted to Medha ‘intelligence’ requesting all the divinities to grant intelligence in him. Study without developing intelligence is labour lost. Then follows the convocation—address of the teacher to the students proclaiming what they should do after completion of their education and entering into domestic responsibilities. He should never deviate from the path of Dharma, i.e. duty and responsibilities.

The second group of mantras dealing with all sorts of peace has been taken from the Rgveda Vll.35; Atharvaveda XIX.7-8, The mantra; of the Atharvaveda are devoted to the prayers to constellations for granting all sorts of peace and removal of mis-happenings.

The third group of Mantras containing a prayer for auspicious resolution of mind has been taken from the Madhyandina Suklayajurveda Samhita. It is the mind which is responsible for any act whether it is good or bad. If the mind is of auspicious resolution a man can develop good moral qualities, leading to grand success in life.

The fourth group of mantra; are taken from the RV X.l9l and AV III.30. These mantra; are called Sammanasya, by following which a man can develop ones personality from earthly level to heavenly level. Here the doctrine of Su—Saha ‘existence par excellance’ has been established. The cherished Vedic concept of Su—saha based on the principles of ‘going- together’, ‘talking together’ and ‘thinking together’, ensure the peace and co—existence of the mankind. It is hoped that this booklet would serve its mite for brining global peace and co—existence.
