Publisher’s Note

Ancestral worship is prevalent in all the civilised societies around the world. In Several communities people practice the custom of playing offering in the tombs of their forefathers on annual remembrance days.

But in our ancient land, the scriptures enjoin that special rituals like Tarapanam should be performed to propitiate the departed souls not only during annual ceremonies, But also on selected days such as New moon days, the first days of the tamil months Thai, Aadi etc, and on solar and Lunar eclipse days. The Tamil Sage Thiruvalluvar has stated in his world famous That it is the sacred duty of a family man to perform rituals to satisfy his ancestors.

Due to the compelling circumstances of these modern days, several persons are not a position to seek the assistance of a Pandit to perform the tarpanam ritual and have to do it by themselves.

The Giri Publishing House with rich experience in bringing out spiritual and religious books behind it, has brought out this edition with a view to help such people. We are extremely grateful to Shri A. Parthasarathy and Shri. T.S Raghavan who have contributed valuably in bringing out this book.

This book contains details from A to Z to enable a person to perform the Tarpanam ritual by himself. The verses (Mantraas) in this book are in Devnagri an Roman script and the description are in Devnagri and Roman script and the description are in English. The entire family of the person performing these ritual as prescribe will prosper in life with the blessing of their ancestors.
