About the Author

Born and grown up in the remote village of Assam, Krishna Giri, a fun loving person who always loved and liked visiting the city of Guwahati unfortunately had to break all the connections with the dearly loved place. Now being a resident of the Darjeeling region, pen downed 'The City of Dharma' recollecting all his childhood memories and presenting a vibrant picture of the city. He is passionate about history, philosophy and science and according to him it's his father and his courageous community who acted as a source of inspiration for him to write down this book.

Preface

`If Purvottar is life, then Guwahati is its soul."

It is said when the wheel of life stops, that the wheel for Guwahati starts.

For centuries long the pride of history turned almost forgotten in the mist of dust which once stood at the center of power and glory, civilization and salvation, art and architecture - a city perhaps like no other.

The region of terror always got crushed; the tower of Dharma was still restored.

Gods and myths, bravery and sacrifice, where love continued to enjoy its union in glide. The city made a way to welcome the heavenly souls, who came again and again for dharma to restore their lives.

Many came with an ambition to win its spirit, and others with an intention to destroy its soul. For rulers may come and rulers may go, but its legacy goes on forever.

Guwahati dares history. Here every alcove and stone tells a tale - of grandeur and valour, of ferocity and sacrifice.

The everlasting Brahmaputra that has flowed through the city through the eras has seen many a dream turning dust her, and many a dynasty crumbling through ages of dusk and desperation. But Dharma never got ruined, and so it survived.

The water of Brahmaputra is now ready to wish out the dust of history and bring back the lost pride of Guwahati from its saga of the past to its living connection with future.
