Book Description
From the Book

Dealing with the life and times of Michael Madhusudan Dutt, the first great poet and dramatist of modern India, I shall come out like a Tremendous Comet vividly recreates the social ferment and cultural efflorescence of an important period in the history of modern India. Michael was one of the great products of and closely involved in many of the events surrounding the Bengal Renaissance. The second Indian to qualify as a British Barrister-at-law and the first to marry a white woman in colonial India he led a colorful tempestuous and ultimately tragic life. Crusading against many odds, Michael became a torchbearer of the Renaissance revolutionizing Bengali literature by a series of increasingly daring literary experiments.

Michael’s interactions with the colorful Young Bengal’s and the legendary social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar become a riveting window into his world. Vignettes of life in Victorian times in Calcutta Black, Gray, and white Towns as well as Michael’s voyage to England and his sojourn in France add further flavor and verisimilitude to the novel.
