Mystic Experiences with Himalayan Masters by philosopher- scientist Dr. Sant S. Dharamananda is the direct outcome of his spiritual journey from Trinidad and Tobago to the Himalayas. It is based on his personal encounters with the Himalayan spiritual giants to whom this book is dedicated and the evolution of the Self. Indian philosophical doctrines and super consciousness have been endorsed by the experiences of these esoteric Himalayan masters. Through the endeavours to explicate the spiritual mysticism with the help of numerous instances and charismatic deeds performed by them, this book helps to comprehend the secrets of spiritualism with ease and coherence.
The work is definitely a commendable contribution in the realm of spiritual introspection. Mystic Experiences with Himalayan Masters incorporates Swami Rama of the Himalayas (the author's guru), Kashi Baba, Swami Hari Hara Maharaj ji, Swami Hariharananda Bharati, Swami Atmananda Saraswati and Swami Shri Satya Sai Baba.
The glossary serves as a tool to understand the sometimes ambiguous and lesser known terms. Dr. Dharamananda's stanch effort to blend Himalayan tranquility with modern academics, science and spirituality to create a unique education system at Wisconsin is the extension of his love of humanity. The study of the book discloses that the author is a yogi with deep spiritual experience and sainthood. I give my sincerest thanks to him; my heart is inundated with love and honour to him. Notwithstanding my deep concern and interest in spiritualism, spiritual experience is still a swan-song to me. Mystic Experiences with Himalayan Masters will prove to be an antidote to those who are suffering physically or mentally.
Further, it will inspire humanity to transcendentalism which is the root of all our joys and ecstasies. I congratulate Dr. Sant S. Dharamananda for such a wonderful creation about spiritualism and strongly recommend it as an explicate study, especially for those engaged in the cause of humanity.
I have followed the spiritual path since childhood. My father was a Hindu pundit, and I realized very early that there was more to life than one might routinely experience. However, it was only after meeting my master, that I came in touch with my spiritual self and started practicing meditation, chanted Sanskrit, ate only vegetarian food, and sang kirtans in many homes, villages and temples of Trinidad and Tobago, where I was born and grew up.
After I met my Master, Swami Rama of the Himalayas in 1987, my life changed and took a direction that I could never have imagined. I learned to break away from the religious way of life and adapted a spiritual way to enlightenment. Yoga, meditation and chanting were the pillars that moulded my spiritual life as I grew up in the beautiful Islands of Trinidad and Tobago. The last time I spoke with Swami Rama was in 1995. He said to me, 'Now you must stop praying to God and start praying with God.' Praying to God separates us from God, but praying with God allows God to become a part of us. In fact, the God amplifies his presence in us. Swami Rama left his body in 1996.
This concept has made me experience great wonders of life and as a result I was able to have the many experiences I mention in the Mystic Experiences with Himalayan Masters.
When my master left his body in 1996, a new discovery came alive in me. Ever since, I have followed my intuition a lot more than my rational mind. I noticed that when guided by my intuition, there is usually something for me to learn or witness. No one else would experience these mystic happenings.
Many other Himalayan yogis have crossed my path since 1987 onwards. I have spent many years with many Himalayan masters in the US, and I have also travelled to India to be with them. I found their way of life to be very intriguing. These treasured memories with the Himalayan masters have now become an inspiration for others to live on. Most of the yogis I have known, and who are mentioned in this book, have left their bodies and I am now left with only their love, blessings, memories and experiences.
Swami Atmananda Saraswati had told me to write down my real-life, mystic experiences about a year before I actually began to write them down as a book. In truth, I never imagined I could write a book, and even if I decided to write, what could I write about? You see, there was a part of me that cared a lot about what people would think about my writing. As a result, I was too shy to write about my experiences.
My astrologer too suggested that I write about the mystic occurrences in my life. I first started writing my experiences after Swami Hari left his body in June 2008. But it was when my father passed away in March 2009, that the urge to write came alive in me and grew stronger in my heart. I noticed, in my quiet moments, that the urge intensified and I spoke less at home.
As I began to write, I discovered many treasures hidden in the closet of my mind. Most of the mystic experiences were buried so deep in me that I had forgotten I had even encountered them. After doing a spring cleaning of my memories, I recollect the many mystic experiences with Himalayan mystics which I narrate here in this book.
Although, there are many, many more treasured moments with my master and with the many mystics that I have met, I have selected what I thought might be interesting to you the reader.
Some of the experiences which I include as part of the stories in the book are very unusual. You will find my stories very simple to follow. I tell my stories in a way for anyone to read and understand. The stories reflect hope in life, regardless of how difficult a situation may be.
I begin with an unusual experience I had when I was 10 years old, and thereafter I have grouped my stories under separate sections, each representing a particular Himalayan Mystic and my experiences with him. Finally at the end I have included some my own personal mystic experiences.
I must however, mention that in all the experiences chronicled in this book, I find that I was just an Observer of the Doer. I was not the Doer - someone else was creating these string of events for me to observe the present moments in life.
