Second only to the great Sankaracarya in stature among the worthy Sanskritists produced by Kerala, Melputtur Narayana Bhatta combined in himself a gifted poet and an astute scholar. His Narayaniya, composed in praise of Lord Krsna, in about one thousand verses is probably the finest devotional poem in Sanskrit. Melputtur's contribution to Campu literature, Sastra kavyas grammar, and Vedic studies is also substantial. The present monograph portrays the colourful personality of this great poet-scholar vividly and brings to the fore his many-faceted achievements in a lucid style.
