About the Author

The author of this present work was born at Varanasi on October 1, 1911, and has his school and college education from the C. H. School and B. H. U., Varanasi. He was fortunate enough to have the training in vocal music and Sitar under the guidance of Dr. S. N. Ratanjankar, who was the disciple of Pt.V. N. Bhatkhande and Ustad Allahuddin Khan, one of the best disciples of Ustad Wazir Khan, the great Veenkar of Rampur State, respectively for several years.

Sri Bandyopadhyaya had a teaching experience of nearly forty years and had been associated either as a member or an examiner with the Boards of Education and Universities that are having music as a subject. He is the author of several works on music which are acknowledged by the leading scholars and art critics of this age to be the authoritative works on the subject they cover.
