Book Description
Foreword

A common trend exists that a brochure incorporating mainly abstracts of the articles exceptionally full article having been accepted is printed and distributed before conference. This trend set by departments to organise a seminar/conclave on one particular topic and publish full papers in the form of a good book is praiseworthy, because brochures are often misplaced, however book is properly preserved thus the purpose of future reading even to subsequent generations is served. The topic selected is also very important specially in current scenario, in which during this cold season ailments of Pranavaha Srotas are very important. Word Prana refers to breath, breath of life and respiration etc, in respiration on inhales and exhales air that is why air is said to be "Jagat Prana" (Amar.K. 1-1.62). Srotasas are external and internal i.e. external apertures and internal macro and micro channels of the body which are transporting conduits of all nutrients and also vital breath (oxygen) to different places as well as to Dhatus undergoing transformation. All biological materials, nutrients, 0,, CO2 and waste products (excretables) are transported via these conduits from the place of origin to the minutest part of the body i.e. cell including its nucleous and from there to the excretory systems. To emphasize this point Charaka says that the type of Srotas are as many as corporeal entities as these entities do not grow/develop or decay without Srotas (C.S. Su. 28/5, Vi. 5/3). Further, in metaphorical way says that the person is only the aggregate of Srotas because of their pervasiveness and diffusiveness of the agents aggravating or pacifying Doshas (C.S. Vi. 5/4). The morbid affliction of Srotas (Khavaigunya) is the basic pathogenesis of disorders which occurs due to various dietetic factors and mode of life and also extrenuous cause. Thus these Srotasas get obstructed and aggravated Doshas circulating through whole body get lodged at the site of obstruction of Srotas and the disease manifests at this site. It becomes amply clear that one can survive both healthy body and mind only ifoPrana and its Srotas are properly functioning and to maintain these in normalcy and prevent their affliction or cure in case of abnormality is the purpose of this seminar. I am sure the deliberation would be very fruitful and beneficial to students and teachers all alike. I wish grand success to seminar.
