Preface

Pointers to Profession An Astrological Exposition’ is indubitably the most exhaustive and extraordinary treatise, among the works so far available in the astrological arena, on the judgement of fitting and appropriate vocation of the native. Every human being has to work to earn his livelihood, except, of course, the parasites. This work becomes his career and his identity as well. To be inquisitive about one’s future career is, therefore, a natural corollary of a curious mind. However, it is a regrettable fact that no serious astrologer has ever made a sincere, honest, practical and research oriented endeavors to work on this vital aspect of astrology. Pointers To Profession An Astrological Exposition’ is the outcome of such abysmal absence of worthy literature on the aspect of one’s career. A little, what is available, is a cursory repertoire of sketchy and generalized essentials. This all inspired us to bring forth an exhaustive work related to profession, covering its every aspect, as far as possible, on the basis of our research-based studies for the last many decades and taking the essential abstract from all the classical works, so far available to us, like Brahat Hora Parashar, Brabat Jatalt, Saravali, Phaideepilca, Jatak Parijat, Man Sagri, Jyotish Tattwam, Vradh Yavan Jatak, Uttara Kalamitra, Purva Kalaniitra, Jatak Deshmarg, Jatak Bhushan, Phalit Martand, Jatak P,Jankar, Hora ratnam, Horasar, Shambhu Hora Prakash, Sarvarth Chintamani, Chamtkar Chintamani, Sanket Nidhi, Jatak Satyacharya, Laghu Parashari, Bhava Kotuhalam, Khet Kautukam, Bhava Manjari, Jatak Sardeep, Jataic Bharnam, JatakTattwam, and Satya Jatakam etc.

‘Pointers To Profession An Astrological Exposition’ will certainly make the students, readers and scholars of astrology adept in finding out the apposite, exact and appropriate vocation of the native. Judgement of profession is indeed a tough exercise, which requires a vast experience and systematic analysis of all the houses and planetary setup of the birth chart, in addition to the ponderous and deep research and multifaceted study of the combinations of various vocations. This is not only the 10th house, which reveals the appropriate means of livelihood, though however the O house is the most important house for the judgement of future prospects of profession.

Planets owning and placed in the 1Oth house are the important significators for the right profession one is likely to go in. Navamsa occupied by the 10th lord mostly plays an important role in the study of direction of the place of work. Similarly, the 2nd, 11th and 9th houses are of no less consequence in the examination of the occupation of the native.

There will certainly be more than one planet which will indicate the occupation of the native, if the 2nd, 11th & 9th houses are taken into consideration, in addition to the 1Oth house. Proper blending of the results of the stronger planets, if made intelligently, will reveal one’s most appropriate occupation. Almost all the classical works pronounce that the judgement of the 10th and other houses should be made form the ascendant, Moon or the Sun, which ever is stronger. But the strength of planets can not be compared with that of the ascendant because both have different units of measurement. We, therefore, opine that the 10th, 2nd, 11th, and 9th houses should be examined from the ascendant only, and not from the Sun or Moon, to avoid ambiguity.

Some kind of change, better or worse, may happen at the time of change in the major or sub period of planets, depending upon the planetary configuration of the birth chart. Therefore, apart from the study of houses, having a control over one’s occupation, Dasa bhukti under operation must also be examined carefully to reach at the right denouement, with regard to appropriate direction of one’s profession, professional prosperity, progression and changes.

The lord of which house has an influence over the house of profession must be seriously looked. It is a fundamental principle that the lord of the house, which signifies the activities or working related to a particular occupation, will play a prominent role e.g. for police personnel, the 6th house and its lord should also influence the occupation because the 6th house governs crime, thieves, loan and litigation etc. Mars, Saturn and Jupiter are the main and supporting significators of police services. Similarly, the 5th house should also be examined, along with 10th and other houses, for legal profession because the profession of advocates and judges requires high argumentative skill and application of brain. All such professions, which include diplomacy, creativity, manipulation and the like, will have a role of the 5th house and its lord in the matters of occupation.

The 8th house is involved where a control over number of people or workers is a part of the job. In the horoscopes of lAS engineers, MBA, politicians etc, the 8th house and its lord play a prominent role. This all has been illustrated by us quite vividly. Therefore, the 8th house should not be ignored during the examination of one’s profession. If the 8th lord is posited in the 10th house or vice versa, one should think of lAS, MBA, or engineers. Analysis of other houses will reveal the appropriate line of occupation.

The 6th house must have influence over the occupation of the native, if service is indicated in lieu of self employment. Influence of either of the luminaries, Sun or Moon, on the 6th house or its lord will certainly be there, if government service is indicated viz. tin Cancer or Leo, or otherwise 6th lord is placed in the 10th house and obtains the navamsa or constellation of the Sun or Moon. This all has been lucidly explained in detail, in various chapters of Pointers To Profession: An Astrological Exposition’.

Promotion, demotion, elevation, extension, suspension or termination, resignation, welcome or unwelcome transfers are all part & parcel of the profession. We have devoted a separate chapter and have explained all about these most scientifically and systematically.

A pertinent and natural anxiety among the querrists, as well as students of astrology, is regarding the type of work they will undertake, whether it will be a government job or a private enterprise, an independent business or work in a business house? The question of service or business has been exclusively dealt with, in a proper manner, in a separate chapter. What kind of business is suitable or profitable to the native has also been explained in detail, with the help of a number of illustrations.

Navamsa chart must be taken in consideration before pronouncing the final outcome in respect of each and every aspect of life, It is, indeed, a great injustice to the native if due importance is not given to the navamsa chart. Navamsa lords of the 10th, 2nd, and 11th houses will assist a lot in deciding the means of livelihood of the native.

Besides navamsa, the constellations are also quite vital in every study. Strongest planet among the lords of the 10th, 2nd, and 9th in addition to Atmakaraka planet, certainly helps a lot in finding out one’s occupation. All the 27 constellations have their own significations with regard to vocational direction. These all should be blended with, intelligently, keeping in view the principles of judgement. These are the planetary pointers for an individual’s career, job or occupation.

A thought provoking research oriented chapter on the secrets of the role of Saturn on one’s occupation has also been included in this work ‘Pointers to Profession an Astrological Exposition’. How does Saturn’s transit help in timing the events has also been explained and illustrated. To understand, the exact influence of Saturn on an individual, in different ways, requires vast practical experience apart from deep scientific study of the subject. Students will find valuable information and observations with regard to Saturn. Evil effects of Sade Sati of Saturn and certain other specific observations about the influence of Saturn add to the usefulness of this chapter.

Saturn is a planet of complications, hard work, tough exercise and secret activities. Saturn is a king maker at times, whereas a negative Saturn becomes a curse and brings never ending problems. Saturn, if posited in the l2 house, gives rise to prosecution and imprisonment in addition to various kind of adversities, hazards, disasters, disappointments, distress and despair, dejection, desolation, depression, demotion, termination or reversion. Saturn is a planet of paramount importance as it contains innumerable secrets in its influence on individuals. Therefore, this chapter has been tilled as ‘Secrets of Saturn’.

Finance and profession are parallel to each other in reference to prosperity. It is a popular saying that nothing succeeds like success. If the native is very well placed professionally but the houses ruling over his financial aspect are afflicted or weak, the native will not be called prosperous. Apart from the house of wealth and income, the ascendant, the 5th and the 9th houses must be examined thoroughly. The triangular houses from the 2nd and 11th may also be judged for further accuracy and sharpness. We have explained this research point in our most authoritative, thought provoking classical based observations on practical birth charts in our book entitled Samriddhi Sutra’ part 1 and 2. The chapters covering the financial prospects, prosperity, poverty, fortune and misfortune in the present work, have been captioned as ‘Fate and Finance’ and ‘Pointers to Prosperity and Poverty.

If the 9th and the 10th houses are well fortified, the house of education and brilliance should also be properly studied to know the kind and level of education indicated to the subject. This has been dealt with very systematically and scientifically in the chapter ‘Houses and Significators of Education’

We believe that events can be predicted almost with cent per cent accuracy with the help of the birth chart but timing of an event is truly a tough exercise and needs lot of research work to obtain the desired and aspired accuracy. However, we have explained and explored the procedure of timing the events in relation to one’s profession i.e. timing transfers, promotion, reversals or change of job etc in the chapters named ‘Timing Promotion in Service and ‘Timing Occupation and results of the 10th house’ and ‘Timing Transfers and Change of Job’.

Moon is nearest to earth and has quite quick and powerful influence on the creatures of earth. Accurate predictions are not possible without understanding Moon properly and correctly. Fertility and activities of brain, in addition to creativity and level of intelligence & memory, depend on the exact position of Moon. We are confident to aver that the Moon is the battery of the birth chart. If the Moon is afflicted or weak or ill disposed, one’s progress, prosperity, popularity and power, education and future will be adversely influenced. After completing almost all chapters of ‘Pointers to Profession : An Astrological Exposition’, we incorporated the chapter on ‘Moon: Myths and facts’ for the benefit of our readers. ‘Moon is a planet of paramount importance’ is quite distinct due to certain specific findings of the facts about the significant and vital role of Moon.

Some of the learned readers have some confusion about the Badhaka Grahas i.e. the planets creating obstacles and obstructions in the path of progress. prosperity, promotion and welcome change of job. A small chapter entitled ‘Badhaka Grahas’ has been included in the book, along with preventive measures.

A customary question, which an astrologer has to face everyday, is about the profession of the prospective spouse. Since this work is devoted to the professional aspect of a native, how could we ignore to investigate the aspect of the profession of the prospective spouse? And therefore, the chapter named as ‘Profession of the Prospective Spouse’ is an added attraction of this book. This work has been divided in 19 chapters covering almost all aspects of profession and prosperity etc. This is an unique and most useful work on the aspect of occupation, which carries our research oriented findings. based on various classical works, during the last 35 years. A few of such research findings have been widely and greatly appreciated by millions of readers of ‘The Astrological Magazine’, The Times of Astrology’, Planets and Forecast’, and the like, in which we contributed our observations from time to time since 1982. The most significant and utilitarian part of this work is the inclusion of about 123 practical illustrations, with lucid analysis, to show how to ferret out the precise results. Our astute and discerning readers, as well as scholars and students of astrology, wifi undoubtedly find ‘Pointers to Profession an Astrological Exposition’ the most informative and enlightening dissertation on the subject of profession, so far.

Study of astrological combinations in relation to various aspects of profession would not be complete without the understanding of planetary set up for different professions. Being aware of it we have, after analysis of thousands of birth charts configurations responsible for specific professions. What are the combinations which make one a doctor, or an engineer, or a teacher, or a lawyer have all been worked out. We have been able to work out the combinations making one successful in LAS, IPS, IFS and the like. As this all would have added further volume to already voluminous “Pointers to Profession An Astrological Exposition”, we decided to encompass all this vital information in another book titled “Astro Equationstrue sense, a continuation of the present work. This book contains chapters like, 1. Planetary Configuration and Classification of Occupation, 2. Propensities for Adminis trative Services, 3. Determinants of Medical Profession,4. Any research work of this magnitude requires inspiration from inside and affection from outside. Had such inspiration not come from someone, whose divine beauty is beyond any description, the work of mortal being would have never seen the light of the day. She was none but the Goddess of learning, who fired our imagination when after the days of hard work, body was fatigued and refused to obey the orders of mind, it was her blessings and motivation that infused new life

Any organized work of this mammoth dimension would require the assistance of sincere co-workers. We thank all associates who have assisted in one or the other way during the process of research can-led out in this work.

We are particularly indebted to Mrs. Mamta Asthana, for her unstinted cooperation during the preparation of this work and untiring effort in meticulously checking the horoscopes to make them flawless. We offer our thanks to Mr. Sadashiv Tiwari for making flawless CRC of the book and also to Mr. Rajesh Tyagi, Mr. Himanshu Saxena and Mr. Gopal Prakash for their assistance in typing and carrying out the enormous spade work, so essential to complete this comprehensive book.

M/s UBS Publishers’ & Distributors Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi are renowned to be the largest, distinguished and the best publishers, not only in India but that of whole Asia. Mr. Anshul Chawla, who is a very worthy son of his worthy father, has expressed his valuable acceptance with regard to publication of ‘Pointers To Profession: An Astrological Exposition’ and ‘Astro Equations for Specific Professions’. For this gracious gesture of his, we are extremely indebted to him and M/s UBS Publishers’ & Distributors.

Last but not the least, this work does not pretend to be complete in any sense of term. What we have broached is the outcome of our experience after the study of thousands of birth charts. More and more research work is required to make the observations still more pin pointing. We are, more than anybody else, conscious of many defects and blemishes, which would have inadvertently crept in this book. For this, we shall be extremely grateful to accept any suggestion from our valuable readers.
