“The present work of Dr Sahani encourages the students to explore and take interest in the subject of pharmacy... It attempts to bring more information to the profession in a simple language.
I hope this book will help to satisfy a need that, to a large extent, has remained inadequately satisfied... I congratulate Dr Sahani for his attempt to present the homeopathic pharmacy in its most natural way.”
Former Director, Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory (Govt. of India), Former Director; Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (Govt. of India)
With growing popularity of homeopathy worldwide, it has gained an official status. Homeopathic Pharmacy has never been a static subject, it kept growing, and today, we find immense amount of work available on subject. There is a need for standardization as there are many up-coming pharmacopoeias of various countries, including India. Thus, there arise a need for making ‘Homeopathic Pharmacy’ a more comprehensible subject. While making the book, an effort has been made to maintain the originality of subject while incorporating new technologies. This book is of use to both; undergraduates & to those pursuing post-graduation, in the subject.
Dr. M. K Sahani born on 17th September 1952, imbibed the sprit of homeopathy from childhood. After completing DHMS, he started practicing homeopathy under his father’s guidance, Dr Bandhu Sahani, and became popular physician amongst patients. He joined Bihar Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital in 1979, as lecturer He is an elected member of Central Council of Homeopathy and Bihar State Board of Homeopathic Medicines. He is editor of two popular magazines ‘Homeo Tarang’ & ‘The Journal of Homeo Transmission which are appreciated widely He serves homeopathy as teacher & guide both at U. G & PG level.
Involvement of the subject of pharmacy in homeopathy, requires a critical study. Dynamism of a material drug needs a definite methodology, which was first reflected in the writings of the founder of homeopathy, Dr. S. Hahnemann. Enhancement of medicinal properties at the dynamic and subtle plane, needs great care and seriousness in the procedure of procurement, identification, preparation, standardization including quality control and storage.
Dr. Sahani, in the present book, has taken great pain in maintaining the originality of the subject as well as making it more logical, for all of those who wish to master the concept of homeopathic pharmacy.
Beginning from the history and traditional application, it has been tuned to incorporate the advanced technology, thus, making it more scientific in presentation. Pharmacy, in homeopathy has evolved from the physician’s own dispensaries and has now taken the shape of a pharmaceutical industry. Hence, there is a great need for thoughts and work which can help and guide at the industrial level also.
Homeopathic education too, has moved from the undergraduate level to the postgraduate level, thus requiring more deep insights in the subject. Pharmacy in homeopathy, at the post-graduation stage is different, and the present work has been oriented to the upgraded plan.
The present work of Dr. Sahani encourages the students to explore and take interest in the subject of pharmacy. Though various other works are available on this subject, this work is a valuable addition to the subject because it attempts to bring more information to the profession in a simple language.
I hope this book will help to satisl5’ a need that, to a large extent, has remained inadequately satisfied to this date, the need of the homeopathic students for an accurate and realistic description required in the subject of homeopathic pharmacy. I congratulate Dr. Sahani for his attempt to present the homeopathic pharmacy in its most natural way.
Subject of pharmacy, applied to the dynamic medicines of homeopathy requires a conception between the materialism and spiritualism. Medicines derived from the material and gradually converted to spirit-like entity present, unified conceptions of two trends of thoughts. Moreover, homeopathic pharmacy came out from the scattered writings of Dr. Hahnemann and was supplemented by various other authors of materia medica and philosophy, in homeopathy. Thus, it presented a difficult task for all, to compile and construct a subject for study.
There is an immense growing popularity of homeopathy and its widespread distribution in various parts of the world. Thus, there is a great need of making the subject, “homeopathic pharmacy”, more comprehensible with the scope of opening new venues for findings and research in the present scenario. No doubt, various attempts have been a made in this field, yet there is a great scope to present it in a better way. Incorporation of new modules in pharmaceutical industries to elaborate the principles of homeopathy, is the need of the time to make the subject more versatile. Homeopathic pharmacy has never been a static subject, it kept on growing, and today, we find a lot of work available on the subject. Yet, in the present conscious world, it will certainly be looked at with a critical view.
Homeopathy, now having gained an official status with the upcoming of Homeopathic Pharmacopoeias in various countries including India, the standardization and quality of homeopathic medicines will have to be studied with great care. Also, the legislation to control the homeopathic pharmacy has to be considered. Standardization and quality needs a proper management system, most suited to the requirement of homeopathic pharmaceutical industries.
Study of homeopathy gradually grew, from the non-formal way to the present state of highly academic, up to the post-graduation level. Art and science of education is aimed at to deliver the knowledge in its originality. Subjects need to be presented in such a manner as to keep the essence of originality, with ease of delivering and creating more imagination and curiosity. Easy comprehension depends on the interest being created to the subject of study. Students require grasping of the subjects as well as to use it as a tool to shape their career. All work has to have practical approach between reality and realm.
Purpose of the present work is to present a platform to acquire the concepts of homeopathic pharmacy, while keeping the fragrance of the past and to provide venues, for the future applications of the subject. An effort has been made to present the subject in its originality, while at the same time adding on the new technologies. Herbs and various sources which constitute the main study for homeopathic pharmacy have been presented in a way to bring confidence to the student and make them more definitive of the matter.
There are some people with a theoretical bent of mind, emphasising on the postulation, and some believe in the very practicality of life and materialism. It is very difficult to keep a harmony and pace between the two. Theory becomes reality with the practicality. One can observe Dr. M.K. Sahani trying to convert theory into practice. He accepted only that philosophy, which he could prove in practice. Thus, Dr. Sahani became a meeting point for both spiritualism and materialism. His coolness and calmness, positive attitude, kept him meditating to find out the panacea for all.
Dr. M. K. Sahani, born on 17th September, 1952, has the distinction to be the son of a great discoverer, Dr. Bandhu Sahani. Unlike his father, he imbibed the very spirit of homeopathy from the very childhood. After completing D.H.M.S., he started practicing under the guidance of his father and later on also joined a lecturer on homeopathic subjects at Bihar Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital in the year 1979. Dr. Sahani is very popular amongst his patients and presently he is accepted as an expert for referral. in his long journey of teaching he has becomes a vast storehouse of information. Teaching and spreading knowledge is a passion for him. He edited a very popular magazine, Romeo Tarang’ in Hindi and ‘The Journal of Homeo Transmission’ which are widely appreciated. He served homeopathy as a teacher and guide both at Sf1 and P.C levels.
Dr. Sahani’s perfectionist nature led him to work tirelessly. He was deeply, involved in the Foundation of the Research Institute of Sahani Drug Transmission & Homeopathy at Patna. RISDTH flourished under his chairmanship. He is now working basically for the research and development of homeopathy. Presently, Dr. Sahani is the only expert for the Transmission of Homeo Drug Energy from a distance.
Dr. Sahani’s popularity led him to be elected as a member of the Central Council of Homeopathy, where he served as a member of the education committee for more than 12 years. He was nominated by the Government of Bihar as a member to the Bihar State Board of Homeopathic Medicine.
In quest of technological advancement, Dr. Sahani worked tirelessly to incorporate advanced technology, to make a better application of homeopathy. Dr. Sahani presented the scientific papers at different national and international seminars and congresses.
Beside all his activities, Dr. Sahani, has the passion to read and update himself. His thirst to know is unquenchable but at the same time, writing books and articles to deliver his best, remained only a hobby for him.
