When Mughal Emperor Akbar came to rule he was just fourteen years old, but at the age of twenty three he launched his first major architectural venture by renovating the existing Lodi for and beginning the construction of 'Akbarabad Fort' in Agra. It is considered to be the strongest fort in the plains of Indian subcontinent. Agra fort is three kilometers in circuit surrounded by a double wall of red sandstone, with flanking defenses, towers, turrets and crenellated battlements.
