From the CD:

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan often referred to as Shehen-shah-e-Qawwali or the ‘Brightest star in Qawwali’ for his contribution to the tradition of Qawwali/Sufi music, is undoubtedly the greatest Qawwal legend of his time. Born in 1948, into a family of distinguished classical musicians, music was in Nusrat’s blood. Nusrat was trained to follow in his father’s footsteps early in his childhood, carrying their 600 year-old family tradition forward.

Nusrat was initially trained within the classical framework of khayal and later absorbed into the Qawwali style of singing. Although he belonged to the traditional Qawwali style of singing. Although he belonged to the traditional Qawwal fraternity, he devised a unique craft of rendering his songs by blending the soulful alaps from the khayal style with the characteristic temp and rhythm of a Qawwali. His performances often included short poetic verses, interspersed with sargam improvisations. Nusrat’s music has a universal appeal that transcends the barriers of language and religion. It is said that one can feel him communicating with God through his music. And the force of his singing is so deep that it binds every listener such that there is unison in this offering to God.

This album contains the most treasured ghazals of iqbal, sung by Nusrat. The music is both, soul stirring and haunting which carries the listener to a place where they get united with the supreme power.

Allama Mohammad Iqbal, a great poet-philosopher and active political leader, was born at Sialkot, Punjab, in 1877. He descended from a family of Kashmiri Brahmins, who had embraced Islam about 300 years earlier.

Iqbal received his early education in the traditional maktab. Later he joined the Sialkot Mission School, from where he passed his matriculation examination. In 1897, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Government College, Lahore. Two years later, he secured his Masters Degree and was appointed in the Oriental College, Lahore, as a lecturer of History, Philosophy and English. He later proceeded to Europe for higher studies. Having obtained a degree at Cambridge, he secured his doctorate at Munich and finally qualified as a barrister.

He returned to India in 1908. Besides teaching and practicing law. Iqbal continued to write poetry. He resigned from government service in 1911 and took up the task of propagating individual thinking among the Muslims through his poetry. He encouraged Muslims to embrace ideals of brotherhood, justice, and service to mankind. His Urdu and Persian poetry which is the best embodiment of poetically mediated thought, sequarely in the traditional continuity of Islamic literature and perhaps the finest flowering of wisdom poetry, or contemplative poetry or inspired poetry in the modern times.

This album features the most cherished poetry of the legendary poet Allama Moammad Iqbal sung by the legend, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. These rare recordings present the legends at their very best.

This is to inform you that the shipment of my order has arrived in perfect condition. The actual shipment took only less than two weeks, which is quite good seen the circumstances. I waited with my response until now since the Buddha statue was a present that I handed over just recently. The Medicine Buddha was meant for a lady who is active in the healing business and the statue was just the right thing for her. I downloaded the respective mantras and chants so that she can work with the benefits of the spiritual meanings of the statue and the mantras. She is really delighted and immediately fell in love with the beautiful statue. I am most grateful to you for having provided this wonderful work of art. We both have a strong relationship with Buddhism and know to appreciate the valuable spiritual power of this way of thinking. So thank you very much again and I am sure that I will come back again.
