Here, this Madhubani painter, with an undeniable creative instinct, flows with all the forms; animals, birds, foliage in an unforeseen image. This painting is cosmic in significance, decorative in nature and playful in expression. A bamboo tree and two large elephants loom large on the plane, both of which are symbols of fertility and prosperity. The figures of animals and plants are not placed in relation to each other. They are floating like in a tranquil aquarium. The subject matter is well thought of but without any attempt to transpose a literal scene or create a photographic semblance of an ordinary situation.
The line is invariably firm and confident in movement. Figures are drawn in thin, energy filled lines and in flat planes against a background of muted colors. Outlined in black, the figures are filled in with subdued grey, green and terracotta colors. In this color scheme, there is no provision for light and shade.
The painter of this painting gets out of the naturalistic expression by the twists and turns of stems and flowers and distortion of the figures of elephants and parrots, which gives the painting stylistic consistency and symbolic form. Thus, the artist of Madhubani creates a world of her own.
